Great point Yip – you’re right. And what will really supplement/complement this program is so-called ‘community leaders’ like Al Sharpton to focus on addressing the culture that promotes gangsters, guns and thuggery rather than wasting their time trying to take down ‘the man’.

“Really? Then why is one of the top stories out of UK this week about a group of teens who shot another teen point-blank for his X-box?”
emarche its shortsited to let rare individual abnormalities like that occurence undermine what is an essential objective. by banning all guns (all!) it simply wont be possible to commit such acts and you wont get people walking around with those insane semiaitomatic revolver glocks made out of metaldetector-invisible plastic. there is simply no other choice.

Actually, you are allowed to buy and own guns in australia… The only difference is that semi-automatic handguns are regulated, and rifles can only have a clip holding something like 5 rounds or less…
Regardless, banning guns won’t do anything, it will only prohibit the law abiding citizens (myself among them) who own a gun legally and use it only for target shooting from buying a gun… Those who seek a gun for criminal activities will always find a dealer.

i was down in n.c. for a few days and was looking for a item and went into dicks sporting goods store. I was amazed by the amout of fire power availabe over the counter. Yes, you need some paper work in the big stores[k mart, sears, etc.} but go out to some little store out in the hills and sure you’ll some dealer that will work with you to get a weapon. And don’t kid yourselfif you think weapons can’t be obtained in hoboken the only thing is that they are going to be a little costly. Also virgina is said to be the easiest place to by a hand gun it’s done by using a shifty local resident and that only a few hours away.

fiona84 – have a look at the murder by knife and baseball bat beating statistics for the UK, they make ours pale in comparison. I’m all for controlling handguns more – but people still will find a way to kill people….

I have to agree with fiona84 here. And I’ll support our position – that banning all guns will make it impossible for criminals to ever get guns in the first place – by citing the effective “War on Drugs” and legislation that makes all drugs illegal. Ever since the total ban on illegal drugs came to fruition, no one has ever been able to aquire illegal drugs. Yes, you do see people pretending to snort up what they pretend are drugs, but really, that white powder is just splenda. Really!

Says who? Did you even TRY to research this?
Here’s some facts to chew on….
cnsnews.com/ViewForeignBureaus.asp?...rchive%5C200101%5CFor20010111e.html
“Last year, 3,685 crimes were committed by perpetrators armed with illegal handguns, including 43 murders, 310 attempted murders and 2,561 robberies, according to Home Office figures released to parliament. It is the highest number in seven years.”
http://www.connected.gov.uk/facts/guncrime/index.html
“In 2004/05 there were a provisional 10,979 firearm offences, an increase of 6% since 2003/04. The number of offences has risen each year since 1997/98.”
So where do your facts come from?

Laws are only as good as the people who obey them.
In turn, guns are only as bad as the people who break
laws to commit crimes with them. Laws will never stop crime, only outline the consequences
Getting a permit for a firearm in Hoboken was difficult,
but I would move before I would accept a “total” ban.

Oh look, another arrest in a gun-related crime in Hoboken:
nj.com/news/jjournal/hoboken/index....s-0/1179469977120260.xml&coll=3
I guess the JJ forgot to mention it was a “fake gun”, since there are no real guns here in wealthy Hoboken.

Will this mean that his family will be booted out of HHA? Is that law being enforced?

i still doubt it would be a real gun (the article never confirms it)
as much as i hate guns, post a link to an article confirming it was real and i will complete an “introduction to shooting” course a local gun store here regularly holds.

Oh, I suppose when we see ‘gun’ in an article, we should just assume it’s fake? Where are you from??

Any volunteers to hang out on Jackson at 3:00am displaying your expensive electronics to test this out? Be sure to grab the barrel of the gun from the guy to see if it’s real. Anyone?….Anyone?

Well, then, I hope you don’t get squirted by one of the many water gun-toting criminals we have up here in Hudson County.

Again, where are you getting your “facts”? If you could support your assertions maybe we’d be persuaded.
But all we see is insistence that mere laws solve the problem of illegal guns. To people with three-digit IQs this sounds like a weak argument.
Guess what? Other states like PA have more lax gun laws. Criminals bring them in. Like in cars and stuff.
Something to think about.
