Alternative dating options in Hoboken?

Where to go besides Hoboken Bars & Restaurants?

When you first start dating someone, the easy (and clichéd) choice is to meet at a Hoboken bar or restaurant. Have a few drinks, break the ice and see what happens from there.

However, Hoboken411 reader Tim has a date with a girl this week – and wants to know what there is to do on a weeknight in Hoboken – that doesn’t involve a pub or eating!

Besides walking around town (or a seeing a movie) – what would you suggest for Tim?

In my mid-twenties, I did the whole “looking for girls in bars” and they rarely amounted to much. Then early 30s I switched gears and did blind dates, volunteering, art classes – just about any alternative dating scene I could think of. Great in theory….but not much better.

And then I met my fiancee in a bar. Go figure.

For some real fun, why not impress your date with your cultural knowledge of Hoboken and take a leisurely stroll through the ethnically diverse part of town. Impress her with your thorough understanding of Drug dens and the hierachy of the business. After that, meander through town to view Casella’s restaurant or the Character Social Club to say hello to a few gangsters you know, these are KILLER places! She will be surely impressed by now but to view some real action, just stop by city hall & view the vagrant ridden benches out front or stroll the halls to refine your skills for the real life parody TV show you are working on……..Nothing says Love more than an afternoon in Hoboken.

Okay… not for a first date… but depending on the girl….

He might consider taking her to volunteer to help make dinner at the homeless shelter in the basement of the church at the corner of 3rd & Bloomfield. They always need volunteers to help with food preparation, and I’ve not only done it before, both by myself & with friends, I’ve also in the past taken a date! 🙂

I realize this might strike some people as scary or weird… but it’s actually not only a wonderful thing to do, it can also be a lot of fun. (I even once met a girl there who was another volunteer whom I later asked out and had a more traditional date.)

Don’t laugh unless you’ve tried it!

Not as scary an option as having too many martinis. Everyone looks amazing, everyone is great in bed after a few martinis.

I think volunteering somewhere in town is a nice option. Tells a lot about who you’re with…[quote comment=”207709″]Okay… not for a first date… but depending on the girl….He might consider taking her to volunteer to help make dinner at the homeless shelter in the basement of the church at the corner of 3rd & Bloomfield. If you were really having a hard time – I would suggest moving out of town because you’re in the wrong place.

It’s summertime in Hoboken…
there are concerts in Church Sq Park, Sinatra Pk and up at 13/Hudson
during the week.
Movies under the stars at Pier A Park.
All free.
Hoboken also has a couple of different theatre groups always putting
on productions…for sm fees.
