Public sidewalks as private storage?

Businesses expand – to the sidewalks of Hoboken!

Hoboken411 reader LobstaGirl picked up on this recent trend:

“It seems the new gallery is bringing its outside shelving to the corner of 2nd and Washington St. WTF, do these people think the sidewalk is part of their private storage facility now? What is next, outside sleeping accommodations? Attention all city workers, wake up… FINE THEM!

Homeless is a hot U.S. Item. On 6/9 officials in Norfolk, Va. teamed up with non-profit groups to deliver cold water and sunscreen to the homeless. [Washington AP]. The sidewalks get hot. Our country does not have a specific answer for the homeless. 💡

This guy must read Hoboken411 because the racks are no longer chained to the tree or pole or wherever they were. Good for him.

Now if we can only get these loser bums out of our town. I bet Hoboken PD is all over this issue and will have them rounded up in no time. One did put a smile on my face the other day when I was walking to work @ 7:30. Slugging a .22 of Bud-Diesel that early like it was his J.O.B. 😀

I know there are laws about signage on the sidewalk but not sure about using the sidewalk as an extension to the store. Zoning? I think that chaining something to a tree, a light pole, a parking meter has got to be illegal but welcome to Hoboken. Some people get away with it and some don’t.

A sidewalk is no longer a sidewalk in Hoboken. It’s a bikeway/ double carriageway for adults and skate way for unsupervised children.

Even when the supposedly sidewalk is empty bikes and misc items are chained to gates protruding into the walkway and causing a tripping hazard.

Some people find it better to chain inside the gateway but then the town starts looking like a trailer park especially along with those who BBQ in the gateway and hang their wet laundry.
