i think i am getting a bad rap on this website. i have not posted since the whole betting thing, but a couple people misquoted me about the fire and/or flooding.
2. Missy – that you’re eventually forced to move out of your parents’ basement here in Hoboken and to settle in another town…and upon arrival you’re greeted with the Hoboken ‘calling card’ of “I’ve-lived-here-longer-than-you-so-you-don’t-matter”.

“Some people went through a really, really bad time in the past 48hrs and to treat that with any degree of levity is beyond reproach. You should both be ashamed of yourself, but then again…you both clearly lack the capacity to appreciate the gravity of the situation.”

for all those affected by the flood and fire i am truly sorry. i happen to live in this neighborhood and my brother is a hoboken firefighter, therefore i never would have made these comments. and all i care about is the quality of life in this town i want to grow old here, but alot of people making these comments and/or making the “rules” for hoboken, consider this town a transitional period.

They finally drained my basement. But of course it wreaks down there and in the hallway and the dryer no longer works. I think I am done with Hoboken once my lease is up.

I agree, Cathy Cardillo is an excellent attorney and she only represents tenants – but man is she an unpleasant person to deal with. She can even be nasty with her own clients. But I don’t know a landlord in town that isn’t afraid for her!

Re post 79. “Hobroken314″: I’d suggest you contact Cathy Cardillo, Esq., whose office is at 223 Bloomfield. She’s a bit of a bull-dog (which is good for you!) and specializes in representing tenants. She’s really, really good & if your landlord is derelict in his duty (which surely sounds like it—tho’ perhaps he’s waiting for his his own insurance investigators to assess?), you’re legally entitled to a “warranty of habitability.” Hope this helps!

I just wanted to say thanks to Hoboken411, it was my only source of information during the flood/fire. I just wanted to also report that I’m a resident at 358 Second Street, which is connected to the lumber yard and was evacuated during the fire. Although my apartment is still standing, its filled with smoke and fumes I was informed by the HFD are toxic. Currently the landlord is refusing to have the building cleaned or repaired in any way. I, as well as two friends attempted to stay there last night and got sick because of it. Just wondering if any other tenants are experiencing the same so maybe we can get our landlord to do something about this unsafe condition.

Two wishes:

1. You -both- get hit by some horrible flooding/natural disaster…and then are told by some patronizing prick that ‘you should have known what you were getting yourself into’. Do you think that any real estate agent in this town would ever honestly pitch a property as ‘fantastic light, great space, and a tendency to flood with local sewage at the first sight of rain’? Of course not. Some people bought back there because that’s what they can afford – not because they’re dumb. Kind of funny that someone who’s always telling us how generous and kind-to-her-fellow-man is now more than happy to kick her neighbors when they’re down.
