Hoboken Unveils Renaming of Tenth & Washington Streets

“John Muller Way” Honoring Founder of Muller Insurance in 1906

In Hoboken’s history, only a few outstanding individuals have been given the honor of having a street named for them. River Street that runs along the Hoboken Waterfront was renamed Frank Sinatra Way after Hoboken’s favorite son; “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro saw the corner of Newark and Washington renamed for his father, Carlos Valastro.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11 am, Hoboken’s map will be changed once again when the corner of Tenth & Washington Streets is renamed “John Muller Way” for John Muller who founded Muller Insurance in Hoboken in 1906 and whose family has been part of the Hoboken fabric ever since.

The ceremony will take place on the corner of Tenth & Washington Streets where local officials (including Hudson County Freeholder Anthony “Stick” Romano) will unveil the new street-sign “John Muller Way.” Three generations of Mullers, many of their friends and clients will be there to celebrate this historic event.

“My family and I are so proud that our grandfather is being honored with a street named for him,” Roger J. Muller, Jr. says. “He loved Hoboken and the business he built here. This is a great honor for the Muller family.”

The Unveiling Ceremony begins at 11am and will include prepared statements from City Officials. Special guest of honor, R. John Muller, the son of John Muller, will be attending with his wife, Hetty J. After the ceremony, all will be invited back to the Muller Insurance office for refreshments including a cake by Hoboken’s “Cake Boss.”

Muller Insurance – over 100 years of Hoboken History
