City Council Meeting: 5/4/2011

Meeting ended before 11pm – see video archives after the jump…

Hoboken Council Meeting of May 4, 2011

Tonight, the Hoboken City Council assembles for it’s first meeting since the Board of Education election, and it’s last meeting before the City Council election on May 10th.

What’s on tap tonight?

Candidates who haven’t sworn an oath of allegiance to Mayor Dawn Zimmer may have an extra spring in their step after the candidates she supported suffered an overwhelming defeat. It’s the second loss in a row for Zimmer, who failed to rally the forces in her own home ward for ex-councilman Michael Lenz in November. Independent members of the City Council are hoping the third time is the real charm, but in the meantime there is bi-weekly business to attend to.

The agenda included Zimmer’s proposed $2 million settlement with the Andriani Five until Hoboken411 broke the news and the outrage grew. It’s been pulled from tonight’s agenda.

The resolution opposing Zimmer’s plan to turn the Municipal Garage into a 24/7 towing and impound lot remains on the agenda, but moves up to item #6. There will also be some more talk about the $101 million budget Zimmer proposed, despite running on a platform to “cut taxes 25% in the first year alone.”

You might be onto something! I am not a Zimmerite, but yet my number is unlisted and I keep getting robocalls and live calls. Makes you wonder. 😛

Weird. Or I should say lucky me. I’ve lived in Hoboken for many years and have been a registered voter all that time. I receive all the campaign mailings from the candidates, but I never receive those robo calls. Not one, and my phone number is not unlisted.

From what I am told, the voter’s registration list has not been updated in quite some time. There is also another weird rule, that 6 months after you have relocated you can still vote from your former address had you not registered in your new location. I have been receiving both “robo” calls and live calls from the Zimmer-backed candidates every single day, twice a day for 2 weeks. I have told them empathically that I no longer wish to be called that though I wish them luck in their campaign, I do not want them to keep calling. I call that desparation! 🙁

so first I got mailings and calls for the school board election and now the mailings and calls are coming fast and furious for the council election….at my new home in Brooklyn New York!!! Addressed to my Brooklyn address and calls made to my 347 number ( I know, the indignity of a 347 number)…..this is absurd! I am no conspiracy theorist but this is starting to smell rotten to me….how can they be calling and mailing out of Hoboken, let alone out of of state!
