Update: 4th Ward Park Upgrades

Video: Tim Occhipinti Parks Meeting

Hoboken Councilman Tim Occhipinti recently held a meeting updating parents in about the plans to upgrade existing parks and create new ones in the 4th Ward.

Here’s a video from Jackson Street Park where Occhipinti unveiled the plans for new equipment, spoke about efforts to crack down on property owners who don’t maintain their lots, and had a lively Q&A with a group of his constituents, all as light rain fell on the hearty group of Moms and Dads.

Occhipinti making more progress in Hoboken’s 4th Ward

Many Hoboken residents in the 4th Ward have been quite impressed with what Tim Occhipinti has done in the five short months since they elected him their councilman.

He’s having an informal community meeting on Saturday, April 16th (1pm) at the Jackson Street Park (between 1st & 2nd).

“Join 4th Ward Councilman Tim Occhipinti and your neighbors for a sneak peek at the new playground equipment that will be part of the renovation of Jackson Street Park.

Come see what our kids will be playing on soon, and learn about more park improvements coming to our neighborhood, including new equipment at the Boys & Girls Club playground, and new playing surface and drainage systems at Mama Johnson Field.

I just wish Tim would take a stand on such important issues as “poop tomatoes” like Dawn did.

It’s nice to see the positive changes in our Ward, fixing street lights, pot holes and I am glad that people with kids get a play ground all well and good but to be honest I rather see Occipiniti take a stand on the fact that crime has increased the most in his Ward.

Parks are nice, home invasions not so much. Maybe he can see if some of the police force can be redeployed to the Southwest part of Hoboken because the only time they were here was the day of the St. Pats Parade.

@Stpaddygirl, I think if you check the record you’ll find Tim Occhipinti has been fighting for a stronger police presence not only in the 4th Ward, but the whole city. Mike Lenz and Mike Lenz Jr. (Rami) supported Zimmer’s police department cutbacks which caused this spike in crime. Lenz, Jr. claims there’s no spike in crime! All of the bobbleheads on the Zimmer slate follow the City Hall party line that there are supposedly more cops on the streets despite the fact that there were so many retirements that layoffs weren’t necessary. The force is depleted, and the transfer of cops to the so-called Power Shift at night means fewer cops to deal with the daytime robberies and home invasions that are on the rise. By the way, the crime spike is mostly in the 1st and 5th wards. Some crime stats are actually lower here in the 4th because of the deal to permanently place officers in the HHA. The problem is they are contractually obligated to stay in the projects, so the rest of the city suffers from the lack of policing. Speaking of parks…

On Easter Sunday, my family came to visit and we walked over to the waterfront and onto the Pier C Park. The “recreation area” was fenced off, but people were on it anyway.

The recreation area looks “ready” but…total lawsuit waiting to happen. The climb to the slide…some kid is gonna fall and break something. Really bad design. Waste of money.

Though I am not a resident of the 4th Ward, I’ve been following Mr. Occhipinti through 411 and the newspapers. He is clearly a refreshing change in an area where promises were made and broken for years. I say, go get ’em Tim! Next stop, Councilman-At-Large!!! 😛
