Out of town cop parking offenders

More out of town po-po park at will in Hoboken

Hoboken411 reader Eric found himself near this precarious situation yesterday evening:

“Out walking my dog. Almost got run over at this crosswalk at first and park because this NJ Transit Police vehicle was parked in the crosswalk. Apparently their hunger was the emergency. They are stuffing their faces in Luca Brasi’s Deli!”

3/21/2011:

Non-Hoboken cop eats lunch; parks in a handicap spot?

Hoboken411 reader Dan spotted this police vehicle (it’s not Hoboken – looks like maybe Port Authority or Jersey City) and said “This is seriously messed up. There was a Police car parked in a handicap spot at the corner of 12th and Willow while the officers ate lunch at Rosario’s Pizza on the corner.”

Do you think other jurisdictions have the right to park where they please on non-official business?

LMAO. I’m actually starting to get a kick out of these individuals parking wherever they please, just for the fact that it pisses the hell out of so many of you la la’s who have nothing better to do than snap pictures of them. Not one of you have the balls to tell them to move their cars, you just come here to bitch like it’s going to solve your problems. It’s more of a joke than the illegally parked cars.

Public safety vehicles should not present safety hazards; however, when at a bonified emergency, with emergency lights on and/or in an area having police for crowd and traffic control, they are ok in parking where necessary to perform their duties.

so the HFD should be able to park a pumper in the crosswalk so they can get a cannoli? In a mile square town you can make it anywhere in under 2 Minutes with the lights and sirens on, so the HPD should park at the station and “pig” out there. 😛

I can not believe the level of disrespect and contempt for police officers and firefighters in this town. What is going on?!?!?! These men and women are assigned to a car and they PATROL and PROTECT their sector. They are in their cars for shifts that can range from 8 to 12 hours and sometimes more depending on shift coverage and or investigations that are being conducted. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO EAT A MEAL, and they are on LIMITED meal times. Would you have them drive around and look for (non-existent) legal parking, instead of heading back to their assigned sector’s? In this economy, we should be HAPPY that Transit and Port Authority officers patronize our businesses here in HOBOKEN, they DO NOT HAVE TOO. Also, the stupid photo above, outside of LB’s shows the front bumper less than a foot into the crosswalk…get over yourself! Did anyone have a problem when they came to our aid on March 5 when our city was “under” a wave of urine/puke and outright crap? These men & women have earned our respect so we should all start to show some! It’s the politicos that need the watchful eye!
But it’s the Justice League!
That’s still 26 feet too close.
I can not believe the level of disrespect and contempt for police officers and firefighters in this town. What is going on?!?!?! First of all these are not “out of town police.” Whether it is Port Authority, NJ Transit, NJSP, these are agencies that have primary jurisdiction in different parts of Hoboken. The surrounding municipalities and the agencies mentioned above are often noted in the H411 police blotter for providing responses or assistance to our PD (i.e. a hit and run fleeing out of town). The general public should have an understanding of how the different layers of gov’t work. I am sure someone complaining here would want the Transit cops around the light rail if they saw some cretins or want a Port Authority cop on the platform when being accosted by a nut. But next time, maybe they will be unavailable due to driving around the block trying to find a non-offensive parking spot. 😯
I can not believe the level of disrespect and contempt for police officers and firefighters in this town. The disrespect and contempt is earned, not given. You cannot possibly justify a Police vehicle parked in a handicap spot to eat lunch, no matter how long their shift was. I agree, they are entitled to a lunch break like anyone else, but under no circumstance is it acceptable for the Police (or anyone else) to park in handicapped parking during non-emergency situations. That’s why first time offenders receive $200 fines!! Considering the police show ZERO tolerance and ticket for even the most minor parking violations of visitors and residents, they should not be so blatantly hypocritical when parking themselves.
I can not believe the level of disrespect and contempt for police officers and firefighters in this town. Port Authority PD take liberties all over, from Weehawken south to Jersey City, they seem to think they answer to nobody and act as such. I observed one on Washington St in JC waiting for the left turn lane light to change. He apparently got bored waiting just put on his lights and make the left against the light (actually a U-turn around a median) and then turn the lights back off and just drive away. If he was actually reporting to something, one would think he would leave his lights on, kick on the siren and speed off but in this case he clearly just didn’t feel like waiting for the light to change. 🙄

Obviously there was an attractive woman having her bags screened at the PATH station. PA officers only have two jobs these days – check ladies bags and guard the guy changing out the Metrocard machine. Other than that they are useless.
Port Authority PD take liberties all over, from Weehawken south to Jersey City, they seem to think they answer to nobody and act as such.
