Hoboken cop assaulted in late-night pizza joint scuffle

HOBOKEN — A police officer was assaulted after trying to break up a rowdy argument in a pizza restaurant early yesterday morning, according to police reports.

Rory William Higgs, 23, of Nassau in the Bahamas, who gave a temporary address on Coles Street in Jersey City, was charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, police said.

The police officer was in Imposto Restaurant & Pizza on Washington Street Sunday at 1:05 a.m. when he saw Higgs and a female companion arguing with another woman near a restroom, reports said.

After Higgs began yelling at the woman, the uniformed officer tried to separate the pair but Higgs pushed the cop in the chest, cursing him out, reports said.

The suspect then began to punch and kick the officer, police sources said. Higgs was finally arrested with the help of customers and police officers who arrived at the scene, reports said.

Higgs continued to yell obsenities at the officers at the station, police said. The arresting officer was treated at the headquarters by staff from the Jersey City Medical Center for pain in his right hand, reports said.

Imposters pizza sucks! Figures it happens at this joint late at night. Always a bunch of drunken derelicts around there. Can’t wait to see the carnage on St. Pattys day!

Once again, the citizens of Hoboken have to take matters into their own hands.

Now, now…let’s be fair: he -was- ‘pushed in the chest’ and subsequently ‘punched and kicked’ (wWhich is surprising since he probably had a ‘can of mace’ on him or at least ‘a nightstick’, but I digress). So let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and just assume that his ‘injury’ was a result of trying to take down the perp.

Wven though we all know he injured it trying to pull his thumb out of his ass before he went in to get a slice of pizza.

Why was a Jersey City medical staff called in instead of people from our fine University Medical Center?[/quote]

Because the Hoboken High School Ambulance squad can’t go out after midnight due to the curfew ordinance.
