3/7/2011:

Dr. Suess’ Birthday inspires reading in Hoboken

Did you know that last Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 – was Dr. Suess’ Birthday – and the National Education Association Read Across America Day?

Students and Faculty from Connors Elementary School celebrated the event.

“This event motivates students to read on a daily basis for fun, a very important factor in student achievement and in the creation of successful lifelong readers.

Each year, many community members take time out of their busy schedules to read Dr. Seuss books to our students. This year was our most successful year yet. We had over 40 readers!

Some of our volunteer readers included: Board of Education Members, Employees and Retired Teachers of Hoboken, City Politicians, Hoboken Public Library Workers, Zog Sports Participants, Hoboken Volunteers, Police Officers, Firemen, Hoboken Family Alliance Members, Parents of Connors School and other Community Members.

Lunch was provided by the generous contributions of Court Street, Biggie’s Clam Bar and Losurdo Bros. (Tony’s.)

Connors School would like to thank each of our volunteers and our staff for making 2011 Read Across America our biggest success yet!”
