Reporter Roundup 2/26/2007

suggestion-box-shredder.jpgContinuing the ongoing series, here are some highlights from the 2/25/2007 edition of our local paper, The Hoboken Reporter.

So what were some key articles included this week?

  • The Pay-to-Play issue that was discussed at last weeks Council meeting. Good summary, however, Mr. Mullins was selective with his quotes and left out some of the more puzzling comments made by certain Council members. Another thing I forgot to mention in the recap, was how Campos spun his words a bit saying “My fear, having grown up in the Housing Authority in Hoboken…” making it sound like he was a long-time Hoboken resident, when he in fact left the City when he was a young child. And came back around the time he was put in the Council.
  • The NJ Transit rate hikes. Good to note that there is a single Hudson County meeting in Hoboken this week. It will take place Wednesday, February 28th at 5:30pm at City Hall.
  • The Garden of Eden issues. Note that since then, the manager has issued a public letter of apology to the Hoboken residents.
  • Talk about the uptown highrise that is planned on Park Avenue. I really wonder if I can believe the fact that the developers say there will be no impact on traffic in the area. I’ll believe it when I see it.
  • No mention of the Hoboken Train Terminal centennial celebration, despite the comprehensive preview last week. I guess they forgot about it or it was past the publishing deadline. I didn’t recognize any Reporter staff there. So I included some Mayor Roberts “good news” myself.
  • Big front-page story about the School Superintendent search process. Here’s the upcoming notable dates:
    • Tuesday February 27th
      Superintendent Finalist Forum
      Hoboken High School Auditorium
      (bet. 8th /9th on Clinton)
      7:00 pm 1st Candidate
      8:00pm 2nd Candidate
      Come prepared with questions
    • Wednesday February 28
      6:00pm Special Session
      1115 Clinton St
      Basement meeting room
APPOINTMENT OF A SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
APPOINTMENT OF AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
    • Thursday, March 1
      6:00 pm Special Session
      1115 Clinton St
      Basement meeting room
INTRODUCTION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS TO THE PUBLIC
  • Mayor seen again in the “good news” section. Welcome back!

Anything else worth noting?
