Hoboken crime and fire action: February 17, 2011

An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Thursday, February 17, 2011. This post will be updated and “bumped” periodically.

  • 9:30pm: Councilman Dave Mello’s Car Towed
At approximately 9:30pm, Councilman At-large Dave Mello – driving his VW Passat – was pulled over near the intersection of 3rd & Monroe Streets. He had an expired registration and expired inspection sticker. He was issued the appropriate summonses, and his vehicle was towed to the impound yard.
If a local government representative cannot handle their own paperwork – do you trust them with Hoboken’s city business?
  • 6:20pm: Minor Trash Chute Fire
Fire Alarms activated at 63 Bloomfield Street, reports of a “smoke condition.” HFD seems to think it was in the trash compactor chute – and feels it was previously extinguished by itself. They’re investigating now.
  • 4:20pm: Car vs. Car
Another car accident at 14th and Washington (you know, that intersection – like many others – that have colorful traffic lights that tell you whether to go or stay?) No reported injuries.
  • 4:05pm: Car vs. Motorcycle
A vehicular accident involving a car and motorcycle at Newark & Monroe. Hoboken EMS dispatched, but no one required medical transport to the hospital.
  • 3:30pm: Pyro Kids
A “concerned resident” phoned police about a group of five kids – saying they lit some kind of aerosol can on fire near a car at 4th and Willow. After HPD investigated, it was just kids playing around near a pile of snow. Yeah, they were playing with matches – but no property damage occurred.
  • 1:00pm: More hung up tractors
Truck stuck again at 9th and Adams Street (just like it always happens there) – even without the massive snow piles. Nothing being done about this consistent problem in Hoboken.

More updates to come…

DID MELLO GET HIS CAR BACK YET? LOL! Mello’s registration expired AND his inspection lapsed! Kind of reminds me of an ex-4th ward councilman. Oh, you thought I meant Campos and his DUI? Yeah, I guess there are similarities there, but I was thinking of Lenz. Using a cell-phone while driving, accidents, unsafe driving. Quite a guy. I heard Mello was going to take a Corner Car to work today but all they had was a Smart car and his big head couldn’t fit.

Good question Guardian! In order to get his car out and legally drive it away he would need to have the registration renewed and- here’s the tough part- have it inspected. Likely the tow yard doesn’t do inspections and he would need to be towed again to have it inspected because it is not legal to drive. Again I’m thinking that AAA ( or other paid in advance tow contract) would require an emergency rather than simple neglect. All of this neglect can add up to big dollars, Is this someone this careless with $$$ and responsibility to be trusted with Hoboken’s budget?[quote comment=”203546″]DID MELLO GET HIS CAR BACK YET? Wasn’t this councilman suppose to give up his car for a 100.00 packet with coupons and two tickets to the ciinema.(do as i say .not as it do,,btw..does the d train still go to the bronx? We all recieve a notice in the mail two months ahead of time to renue our reg..As for the inspectiion sticker Daves Auto would inspect it for 60.00$$ if the trip to the mv station is to far..Campos and mello are apples and oranges. campos was poor judgement, mello had lots of time to take care of business. 😯 [quote comment=”203546″]DID MELLO GET HIS CAR BACK YET? Good work HPD. Guess the bobblehead thought he could save a few bucks for his re-election campaign. LMAO. Ya should have paid the State Mello cause any bucks towards your campaign will be wasted———YOU’RE OUT !

That dunce cap fits well on Dave Mello’s head! What a dope! This guy walks around with his nose in the air like his s**t smells like Chanel. Mello talks down to everybody who lives lower than his dee-lux apartment in the SkyClub. I guess he thinks he’s too important to get his car inspected and renew his registration. Nice to see one of the most arrogant, condescending empty suits in Hoboken get taken down a notch! ROTFLMAO!

Ha! That is too much. Wonder what condescending Dave has to say about it. Maybe he can hire Melli to spin this into something positive! What a douchebag!
