60 Second Update: Zylo & W Hotel

Zylo Update: New chef, huge upgrade

Hoboken411 recently had dinner at Zylo Tuscan Steakhouse (in the W Hotel) – and here’s the 60 second recap on why you need to add Zylo to your “Hoboken Restaurant Radar” as soon as possible:

  • Last summer, Zylo brought on a new Executive Chef Roberto Bellissimo, and the overall level of the food has gone up many notches. Practical perfection across the board. While some of the original items remained on the menus – many new selections were added, and exhibit Bellissimo’s signature “clean and simple” cooking mantra.
(Read Bellisimo’s Bio here – and Peruse Zylo’s menus here)
  • Desserts. Whether you care to check out the updated lunch and dinner selections at Zylo or not – is one thing. But something that really MUST be tried – is the dessert menu. Roberto’s wife is a professional pasty chef – and played an integral role when the dessert menu was revamped. The desserts we sampled were impeccable, and the coffee is also fantastic. So if your budget doesn’t allow for a full-on multi-course dinner and fancy bottles of wine – at least find a way to make a special trip to Zylo for an exquisite dessert and coffee excursion. You will thank me later!

Below is a photo gallery of items sampled. I had to pat myself on the back for the surprising photos I take even in poor conditions – without a room full of equipment, tripods, lighting and gadgets. It may be time to re-think your over-priced photographers these days – some folks (ahem) just have a knack for having a good eye and know how to use their tools.

I bumped into Perry while he marched downtown to this project. His tools consisted of a camera, a stand and maybe something else. Can’t remember.

My point is that his tools were kept to a humble minimum… and yet he’s produced phenomenal photos here. I mean, these look vibrant, colorful, interesting and YUMMY. I’m a chocolate-girl, but can’t wait to try the banana bread first. (Can they drizzle chocolate on that  ?)

Their Sunday family style four course dinner for $25 is a pretty good deal.

Been to Zylo several times and there is a significant improvement since the new chef (Roberto). I have yet to be less than very impressed – and my wife raves about the desserts! Many new places in Hoboken create a stir with diverse menus, but very few actually take cuisine to this level.

Nice to hear, tried this place when it opened and it left much to be desired!

I don’t mind spending money for a good steak (Sparks and Del Frisco’s as good examples of money well spent) but at their prices it had better be amazing!
