Are drivers that afraid of the snow?

New Hoboken Trend: Idiotic Angled Parking

The brutal snowy winter Hoboken has endured brought forth many issues this season. From ineptitude the city administration exhibited when it came to plowing (another example that “learning on the job” is not acceptable with municipal responsibilities), to stroller moms, dog poop and ridiculous ticketing robbing of hard-working residents – there was certainly no shortage of snow-related incidents.

The next item up is: angled parking on narrow streets.

Apparently, the drivers are so sick of slipping and sliding on the packed snow banks – that they’re afraid to even push the car over the icy surfaces (except for this guy).

Hoboken Police and Fire had to deal with this growing trend all weekend – leaving some streets dangerously narrow – where emergency vehicles would not have been able to pass by safely.

Below is a gallery of just some of the shots (14th Street, Monroe St. and Hudson St.):

It seems the world revolves around each person individually here in Hoboken!

I wish I could have stopped this evening to snap a picture of a car on River Street in front of Club H – but unfortunately I was behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. Some idiot parked fully at a 45 degree angle to the curb was obstructing traffic in a major way. The minimal effort they made to fit into a decent spot was a complete joke. The City needs to start penalizing this; people are getting away with it everywhere which is not exactly a deterrent to the next guy.

I dont think people parking basically in the middle of the street and someone who is parked a little in the yellow is the same. If you’ve driven around lately youd be amazed at how many side mirrors are broken and sides of cars are scrapped because drivers park however they want and dont care or even think about the chance they will be hit. Saturday I had to back up a whole block on 9th because a box truck couldn’t get through. Someone had parked pretty much in the middle of the street with a brand new lincoln suv.

According to the city website – The City of Hoboken will resume enforcing street cleaning (alternate side parking) regulations on Tuesday, February 8th. Residents should move their vehicles during posted hours.

Until the city starts enforcing parking regulations consistently and regularly (24 x 7?) people are going to act like this because there is a good chance that the person that parked like this will get away with it. Start ticketing people that park like this, double parkers, cars parked too close the to the corner and watch how quickly it ends. People are afraid to park illegally in New York City because within 5 minutes you have a ticket or are towed.
