Homeless in Hoboken: Eric & Angel

2/4/2011:

Hear from the Hoboken Homeless

Hoboken411 was passing through Church Square Park recently – and had a nice little chat with two rather well-known homeless individuals Eric and Angel. See how they handle the cold weather, the homeless situation, the inconsiderate drunks that harass them, and much more.

You remember that homeless guy with the supposedly great “radio voice” from a few weeks ago?

Well, why can’t these guys get a late-night comedy hour on a local network? I think they’re quite funny – and better than crap you’ll see on most TV channels.

Regardless, these men (some close to a full decade being homeless!) – are just as human as everyone else, and try to manage.

So what do you do when someone is on the down and outs?

PS – if you see these guys – give them a couple dollars so they can make it another day… how hard can it be?

As far as Eric and Angel are concerned they’ve got you all fooled. Sure they are on the street but did they tell you theyve been offered all kinds of assistance for housing, health and were constantly fed three times a day – even while they were drunk – by the shelter on bloomfield? Did they let you know that they constantly harass YOUR WIVES and DAUGHTERS on their way to and from school and work? Did they tell you that NONE of the money you so STUPIDLY give them goes to feeding or clothing themselves? Did Angel tell you about the whopping $780 a month check that he receives pid for by your taxes?? (or juust brags about as he calls you “dumbasses that are stupid enough to give him money”)
Sure they need help EVERYONE DOES. If you really want to help them then start by questioning the person “filming” them. All he was doing was exploiting them. So, as you rush to comment on how much “HELP” they need as you view this crap ask yourself how a dollar spent on wine beer or booze can help these guys? The guy that needs help is you – all of you. If you want to help the homeless – volunteer, donate, and advocate.
DONT GIVE THESE GUYS MONEY GIVE THEM HELP! DONT EXPLOIT THEM FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT! DONT LET THE VIDEOGRAPHER GET AWAY WITH THIS!

JoeArt I believe 411 does a service in producing a mini documentary. I would like to see other folks in town interviewed also. Particularly interesting would be those with a dual life that others in this post mention. They may look like you upright citizen but what lurks underneath is something vastly different. I don’t believe that anyone accepts stories at face value but the stories do lend some insight.
As far as Eric and Angel are concerned they’ve got you all fooled. Wow, i just came back from Hoboken today with my girlfriend and we were sitting at the park and Eric approached us for a chat. He was very polite, funny and cool. He is very intelligent and i wish i could’ve talked more to him but i’m shy, after my girlfriend and I left we came back an hour later to bring him food and he wasn’t there 🙁 My girlfriend’s mom told us we should’ve took a picture with him and sadly enough we didn’t. But look, i still found him! this is awesome 🙂 Best of luck out there Eric, although you can’t read this and hopefully we can meet again( I live elsewhere ) and I know you will be the first homeless alcoholic Mayor of Hoboken :)
JoeArt I believe 411 does a service in producing a mini documentary. wow. I just came across this article, and had to reply! I am no fan of anyone who may harm this community, for ANY reason! My immediate reaction to this video was “man that’s terrible” maybe I should go and bring them something. i will, and i am certain some of you who are now familiar with these two guys might have the heart to do the same. I want to start by saying being homeless doesn’t mean that guy who lives in the suite, at the top of a beautiful loft apartment, in the heart of Hoboken is better than you! This also doesn’t mean that if you are a “paying-resident” of Hoboken, you have the right to be pissing, or blowing/getting blown from your catch of the evening, on my front porch, coming home from a bar at 3 am simply because its dark enough there… and perhaps you’ve had a wild night, a few drinks and an extra ten minutes before your sitter leaves… BECAUSE YOU PAY to live here! (i have had to deal with both) mmmm… love my basement apt! I don’t believe it’s unfair to ask everyone in Hoboken to take care of this city overflowing with little friends, and families, and who better to do it then the parents, and adults in this community! There are politicians in this very neighborhood who reek of the same/even worse stink as these fellas on this video! Their are neighbors in our buildings who have criminal… Read more »

Isn’t the “homeless guy with the supposedly great “radio voice”” back in rehab?

He only went to rehab because dr. phil ambushed the guy with bullshit when the guy was already feeling overwhelmed and felt like having a drink. He left the treatment and went to work……
Isn’t the “homeless guy with the supposedly great “radio voice”” back in rehab?
Homeworld, hopefully he will continue treatment – mental illness is more reoccuring than other dieases and needs to be managed. Extreme bouts with fame would challenge the equlibrium of the most stable of us.
Isn’t the “homeless guy with the supposedly great “radio voice”” back in rehab?
