Snowiest January ever; could break seasonal record

Did you know?

  • After the latest Hoboken Winter Storm, we broke the 1996 record for snowiest January ever? And there’s four more days left!
  • Just about 20″ more before the end of the winter – and 2010/2011 will be the snowiest winter in recorded history.

I want to see Al Gore shovel. Now!

The city was doing OK for a while, what happened?

The two last “pansy” storms Hoboken had were handled with such (over-zealous) precision by the city administration, it was a bit surprising. But the minute a serious storm hits our area (with plenty of advance warning as to the potential), the ball is dropped faster than you can say “What tax cut?”

Seems that there are a myriad of issues concerning the latest major winter storm in Hoboken.

  • The pre-salting of the roads was once again absent for the most part.
  • Whatever plows we had – were at a minimum, and too late.

Towing of the emergency routes should have taken place during the “lull” in this storm – when roads for the most part were passable. Why they waited until we got buried is inexplicable.

Hoboken’s grade for this storm: D-

In other news: KoKo Fitness on Groupon!

Yes, I offered some criticism about Groupon recently – but don’t forget I said that some deals were still worth it.

For example – today’s North Jersey Groupon deal is for KoKo Fitclub (14th & Adams) in Hoboken! For $29 bucks – you can have unlimited workouts for an entire month – along with a Fitness Consultation.

Click here to get in on the limited time action: http://www.groupon.com/deals/koko-fitclub

Enjoy your slippery day today!

My landlords don’t always do the greatest job of shoveling due to job and some physical issues. I would say after the last snowfall a flyer was put in the mailboxes from 5th ward councilperson and now council president Beth Mason with a number to call if anyone needed help shoveling out. I looked out my window yesterday to find a group of people with jackets that said Team Mason shoveling the stairs (my entrance&exit),the gate area and sidewalk. “Great job Guys!” “Thank You!” & “Thank You!” Beth Mason

I was wondering, why can’t the city trucks plow the ave sidewalks in the morning for pedestrians? I could understand not doing the side streets, but the sidewalks on Washington are wide enough for them to make a decent path on both ends. This would also be so helpful, even one side of street would be sufficient.

If we get any more snow, it might be easier to make snow tunnels for pedestrians.[quote comment=”202663″]I was wondering, why can’t the city trucks plow the ave sidewalks in the morning for pedestrians? I wonder if any tickets have been issued for failure to shovel? One of the worst offenders in town is the Ninja Training Center on the corner of 1st and Adams. This place never, ever shovels of salts until days after a storm. I suspect since this place is run by Hoboken cops or family members of cops, that they have never received a summons.
