PATH train Teddy

February
I’m sure many of you have encountered the infamous Teddy more than once. What are your stories?
Here’s what Hoboken411 reader Eric has to say:
“I wanted to first thank you for this website you are doing an incredible job. I know it sounds corny and clichéd but it really has become a daily destination for both myself and my wife. But the real reason I’m writing is because I have always been curious about Teddy from the PATH train, the guy who walks up and down the train asking for money to feed the homeless. Does anyone know if the money actually goes to good use or just goes into his pockets? What do your other readers have to say? Thanks in advance.
Eric”

He held the door open for me once so I made it on before the PATH train left the station. He’s a good man.

I find it funny that a crook like him is lecturing folks on the legality of anything.

It’s not illegal to video someone in a public place.

For the most part that is true, especially when they are committing fraud like Teddy. You are allowed to film a criminal act in public regardless. Considering that Teddy violates laws in 2 states he could easily be arrested in either state for both violations. However, you cannot film on a Subway (PATH) without some sort of authorization under the guise of “homeland anti-terror security” etc. But as a photographer or videographer under no circumstance can the police take your film unless there is probable cause to believe that you are going to or are in the process of committing some criminal act yourself. The ACLU is very clear on this and there are numerous lawsuits currently pending in State and Federal Court against the NYPD for such violations as stealing film, breaking cameras, and unlawful arrest. Teddy is collecting welfare benefits in two states (NY/NJ) using at least two names. If you look at some of the ID cards he has, they are benefits cards from both NY and NJ.

The more hung over, tired or irritable you are, the more likely it is that him and his foul screeching voice show up.
