Hoboken crime and fire action: February 1, 2011
An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Tuesday, February 1, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.
- 12:35am (Feb 2nd): Icy Update
HPD says “cars sideways” everywhere uptown. They’re advising Union City and other municipalities to close access…
- 12:25am (Feb 2nd): It has begun…
The freezing rain has begun in earnest here in Hoboken – and the first call of the morning was about an Academy Bus that slid out near the Willow Ave Bridge, and is apparently sitting perpendicular to the roadway. Hoboken Police are en route to diagnose the situation, and may shut down the bridges so that appropriate safety measures can be taken.
- 11:00pm: Large Fight
Reports of a “large fight” at 655 Sixth Street – several HPD units en route…
- 9:50pm: Smoke Condition at Neumann Leather (see comments for updates)
Hoboken Fire Department en route to the Neumann Leather building at 317 Newark Street for reports of a smoke condition. Doesn’t sound good at the moment…
- 10:45am: Odd slip and fall
A Hoboken political mouthpiece claims she “slipped and fell on icy conditions inside a school” and was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center.
- 10:15am: Hit and Run
4th and Hudson – another car damaged with no one to hold accountable.
- 8:15am: Car accident involving Garbage Truck
On the Willow Avenue Bridge, a Garbage truck veers into oncoming traffic, injuring four and causing massive delays.
- 2:45am: Where are the salt trucks?
FYI – Hoboken Police are very concerned that the streets have a layer of icy snow on them – and salt trucks are nowhere to be found. This can seriously affect the response time for emergency vehicles in Hoboken.
