Hoboken police and fire blotter: 1/30/2011

Hoboken crime and fire action: January 30, 2011

Various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Sunday, January 30, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.

  • 10:25pm: Car burglarized uptown
A white male wearing all black, with a dark cap broke the drivers side window of a grey Honda CRV near 9th and Castle Point Terrace. Police arrived to the scene, but didn’t find the alleged actor, nor did they determine if anything was stolen.
  • 3:45pm: Laptop thief apprehended
Earlier this afternoon – a white male wearing a grey and red jacket stole a laptop which was left unattended by a woman at Starbucks. The man fled west and was spotted in the Bloomfield / Garden area between 2nd and 3rd Streets. With witness assistance, Hoboken Police apprehended the man after he “ducked into 220 Garden Street” to avoid pursuit. The laptop was recovered after the suspect threw the stolen property in a pile of snow during the chase. Moral of the story: Don’t treat Starbucks is if it’s your living room – it’s not.
  • ALL DAY: Plow, Ticket & Tow
Like a broken record, Hoboken Cops have been dealing with the headaches associated with the massive snow mounds across town. Cars blocking the safe passage of other vehicles, impeding crosswalks, and getting in the way of snow removal equipment. 411 tip: Do not drive in or around Hoboken until the spring!

More updates to come…

Slight correction– laptop was under the watch of my roommate while I was in the bathroom. New moral of the story: only hang out with superheros who will actually chase down bandits for you.

The police were ticketing, then towing all cars parked on the west side of Willow. Even though it’s a snow emergency route, the city’s website never mentioned to not park there today. They mentioned to stay off other streets this weekend, but not Willow. Where is the communication?
