Hoboken crime and fire action: January 26, 2011

Some afternoon incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Wednesday, January 26, 2011. This post may get updated and “bumped” periodically.

  • 11:59pm: Auto Fire
1500 Clinton Street – Car on Fire.
  • 9:30pm: Auto Accident
Minor accident at 15th and Jefferson – no injuries reported.
  • 9:00pm: Drunk middle aged man at train station
HPD being called to the Lackawanna Train Station (“Track #1”) for a 56 year-old intoxicated male. They didn’t specify why, but he’s either stumbling and fumbling, or griping about where he went wrong in his life…
  • 4:40pm: Destructive kids now!
Reports of kids on the 4th floor of the parking garage adjacent to Hoboken University Medical Center throwing snowballs, broke a window in a nearby building. “It’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt…”
  • 1:00pm: Kids will be kids
Reports of “a group of kids throwing snowballs near the McDonald’s” at Third and Washington. What is this, a new game? Homeless beggar target practice?
  • 12:15pm: CVS Shoplifter
The Downtown CVS called Hoboken PD – reports of a shoplifter in the store. Wonder if he was enticed by the Prescription Drug Savings Scam?
  • 11:37am: Mom, get your sh*t together!
A Hoboken mom called HPD saying she locked her baby in her car near 4th and Willow. They’re sending a tow truck to help jimmy the car open. That’s an idea for Hertz Corner Cars: “Auto baby eject!”
  • 11:30am: City botches practically everything
A Hoboken Police officer reported that his patrol car was “clipped” by a Hoboken salt truck near Police Headquarters at 120 Hudson Street. Minor damage, but still! Maybe the city needs discount eyeglass cards – out of necessity, not kickbacks!
  • 11:10am: Truck bullies cables
On First Street between Court and Hudson Streets, reports of a truck that knocked a bunch of cable wires down, hanging low now. That sucks. Hope you have DirecTV if you want to watch your soaps!
  • 10:57am: Emergency Snow Routes now active
The Hoboken Police will be making their “announcements” through their vehicle’s PA systems – that the Hoboken Snow Emergency Routes are now in effect, and residents should move their cars.
  • 10:50am: Creepy Fire Escape
A resident who lives at 720 Washington Street reported that a man (light-skinned Hispanic) was on his fire escape. The man claimed to be from Cablevision – but refused to produce credentials to the resident. The HPD called Cablevision – who said “no jobs are scheduled at that location today.” The man took off in an un-marked pickup truck with no logo.
  • 10:00am: “Let it begin”
The first of many slippery car accidents took place at 15th and Park. No injuries reported.

More updates to come…

This one strikes me as funny because people jumped all over my butt three weeks ago when I said that this town was unplowable by the kind of huge trucks that are used in more traditional snow cities, because the big trucks would be hitting the other vehicles on our too-narrow streets.

The “Cablevision” burglar reportedly told a suspicious resident he would be back “between 11 am to 4 pm.”
