Hoboken crime and fire action: January 20, 2011

An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Thursday, January 20, 2011. This post will be updated and “bumped” periodically.

  • 6:10pm: Hertz on Demand Headaches again in Hoboken!
Hoboken411 received quite a few emails today about this Hertz on Demand Connect Corner Car issue at 8th and Garden – near the Mr. Wraps Sandwich Shop. Residents were complaining that not only were the Corner cars NOT in their designated spots – but also parked illegally in the yellow curb – too close to the crosswalk. I’m a bit concerned that a Hoboken cop reported earlier that it was not a problem – and that it wasn’t blocking traffic or the intersection – and “was at least 10 feet from the crosswalk.” Sure – fine and well – BUT ALL NORMAL HOBOKEN RESIDENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN TICKETED. Why is Hertz getting a free pass?
411 reader Scott sent in photos earlier of exactly what the situation is:

More updates to come…

just an opinion..enterprise was the best 150.00 for the weekend..no corner cars you got a pkg permit for the weekend…This is not a one horse town with a 50 man police force and a canine unit.strawberry festival…pop 20 thousand…Figure the creteans hit you 25 feet from the corner and the corner cars get a buy..How many feet does that leave the citizen? family visits even the yup condos and shipyard and wind up with a boot and summoms..unfair to unsuspecting people… 😯

I think it’s time for somebody to review the ELEC reports for the Mayor and all members of City Council to find out if Hertz and/or any of its executives or employees have contributed campaign money.

Not only that, but are any elected officials or members of the Mayor’s administration getting their own personal “sweetheart deals” from Hertz?

Corruption – it’s all the same, whether it’s an envelope full of cash or the free or discounted use of a Corner Car or other service.

Agree, doesn’t look right. But forget the elec reports. Probably done on the sly. Back room, diner, condo somewhere off the grid. But you never know who might be listening or recording![quote comment=”202376″]I think it’s time for somebody to review the ELEC reports for the Mayor and all members of City Council to find out if Hertz and/or any of its executives or employees have contributed campaign money. It’s OK because it’s at least 10 feet from the crosswalk?! It’s parked 0 feet from the stop line.

Total BS. If you’re going to attack taxpaying residents for parking, then hit up hertz as well. The bigger question is who at city hall told the police to go easy on hertz. How much money is changing hands under the table.
