Hoboken crime and fire action: January 18, 2011
An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Tuesday, January 18, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.
- 9:40pm: Drunk causing issues
Reports of an “intoxicated male” creating a disturbance at the Davis Stationary convenience store. What could be causing his rage? Newspaper headlines? Apparently, now – the man is having chest pains as well – and Hoboken EMS is en route.
- Afternoon Car Accidents
There were a handful of minor fender benders in town. One woman had her car towed because she had an expired license. Luckily there were no injuries – nor ambulances involved.
- Afternoon Fire Calls
As it happens every day, the Hoboken Fire Department was called for many alarm calls. Either water leaks, carbon monoxide leaks, and several “careless cooking” situations. You’d think these alarm companies can somehow advance their technology to distinguish between “destructive fire” and “nincompoops.”
- 12:30pm: Criminal Mischief – with sushi?
HPD was dispatched to Yeung II Asian restaurant uptown for reports of “Criminal Mischief.” What can you imagine that is? Throwing sushi at the waiter?
- 11:40am: Smoking Manhole
Reports of “smoke coming from a manhole – smell of burning wires” at the intersection of 6th and Washington Streets. Hoboken Fire Department now on scene – confirms the conditions – checking it out. PSE&G also notified.
- 3:00am: Minor Snow Issues around town…
Hoboken Police are wondering where the salt trucks & plows are – because many streets in town are covered with icy snow. One HPD Officer reported a taxi cab that “spun out” near 15th Street uptown (luckily no damage), but is requesting cleanup. The snow is expected to change over to sleet – freezing rain within the hour, however, conditions are treacherous at the moment – and may remain so until the morning commute…
