60 Second Review: Hummus Bar

1/7/2011:

Hungry? Head over to the Hummus Bar!

The Hummus Bar (630 Washington St.) opened up this week – much to the delight of Hoboken residents.

Peruse the Hummus Bar Menu – and read on for quick initial review!

Quite simply – it’s an Israeli restaurant that serves fresh, healthy food – to eat in, takeout or have delivered. In other words – it’s “Fala-Phenomenal!” (say that aloud to get my point…)

Hummus Bar receives excellent marks!

I sampled the food yesterday – and for an eatery that just opened, they did quite a good job! The pictures above speak volumes – but I’ll try my best to sum it up below.

 • All the dishes tasted were top notch. The Falafel, Hummus, Chicken and all the salads were spot-on. I felt they were also a good value for the money. The Matbuha also stood out with exceptional tomato flavor. Falafel was particularly great if you ate them straight from the kitchen.
 • Sweet potato fries were also amazing. For best effect, however – I recommend you eat them in the restaurant – as like anything that’s fried – can become a bit soggy by the time you get home. Pita bread was easy to manage.
 • Everything else was what one would like in restaurant. Nice friendly staff, clean, comfortable seating. The desserts were nice too. Baklava and Tiramisu very flavorful.
 • Interesting spin on the packaging too. The pita sandwiches come in strong “mini pizza boxes” to prevent them from getting squished and sloppy. Smart thinking!

Owner Nevo was amazed at the welcome response he’s received so far – and was a bit overwhelmed with delivery yesterday… he hopes to add one or two more drivers to keep up with demand.

Hoboken411 gives Hummus Bar an “A” – and will try to incorporate healthier eating on a regular basis in 2011!

Enjoy!

Had take out from there last night. It was all very good. we tried the regular hummus and the chicken/ turkey one. Both were excellent and we had left overs for lunch today.
I hope this place makes it as the food was very good and priced right.

Went there last night. Excellent hummus. We tried the regular and the Thai and both were fresh and tasty. The falafels are a bit dry though. The pita bread is much better than the store-bought kind. Also had the beet salad which was nice. Make sure you get the hot sauce. Nice people working there too. Seems like they still are a little disorganized but I’m sue they’ll get it together soon. A fine addition to the Hoboken dining scene.

Congratulations trueblue11. Five members of my family are visiting Hoboken tomorrow. I was having a hard time deciding where to take them for lunch. Then you come along and make a dopey political statement in a food review thread. That made up my mind. We are all going to the Hummus Bar, and we have you to thank for it.
free Gaza, boycott Israeli interest.
