Happy Birthday Hoboken Man Salon!
Opening any new business, especially in this economy, is no easy task.
A big congratulations for The Hoboken Man Salon on their first successful year!
Hoboken Man Salon thanks customers
“The Hoboken Man celebrated its 1 year anniversary in late November, prominently displaying a sign thanking their 3,000 clients for making their first year a success.
Located at Maxwell Place (between 11th and 12th Streets on Maxwell Lane), The Hoboken Man is Hoboken’s only upscale barbershop. Services include hot-lather straight razor shaves, signature hair cuts, spa manicures and pedicures and a variety of skin care services, including anti-aging facials.
“Our first year is a real success story,” said co-owner Dan Hood. “We opened because we knew that Hoboken men wanted an upscale, masculine place to get a hair cut. And our prediction has been validated — 3,000 clients and 8,000 services.”
The Hoboken Man received national attention in its first year. Brides, American Salon and Salon Today magazines touted the barbershop’s unique atmosphere as a key attraction. In fact, Salon Today awarded The Hoboken Man its 2010 Salon of Distinction award.
“The shop has a modern, masculine feel with richly stained wood panel walls, chrome accents, and exposed ductwork for an industrial flair. Eight flat panel high-definition televisions hang in optimal viewing areas around the shop. There is also a collection of vintage Playboy magazine covers displayed on the wall—including the first-ever cover featuring Marilyn Monroe.
Owners Dan Hood, Emily Gonce and Steve Holm—all Hoboken residents—recognize that doing business in Hoboken has its challenges, including high rents, competing businesses and highly mobile residents.
“We credit our loyal clients for our success,” said Gonce. “They’ve spread the word about our staff, atmosphere and services. We recognize their value so much that when a current client refers a friend, that client receives a $5 credit to his account, and the new client receives 20% off.”
Building relationships with local businesses was central to The Hoboken Man’s brand-recognition campaign. The shop partnered with Liberty Bar and Grill, LUA, Wicked Wolf Tavern and other local businesses for promotional and charitable events.
“A critical part of our success was cementing the Barbershop as a real, active part of the Hoboken community,” said Holm. “We thank Hoboken for a great first year.”
