Hoboken Kickball League
Hoboken Kickball League Fall Registration
In case you’re idle and want some mindless surrogate activities to fill your time – you might want to consider signing up to the Hoboken Kickball League – which is currently enrolling members and teams for the Fall 2012 season.
Fall and spring seasons last between seven and eight weeks not including “playoffs.”
For what it’s worth, they play at Washington Park in Union City (you know – because Hoboken has no real park space), but it’s a very short drive and you can even walk – by taking the elevator by the 9th Street Light Rail Station.
Go ahead – kick some balls.
Hoboken Kickball Leauge – “Kicking Balls” since 2004
1/9/2007:
I know it’s not the best time to bring up warm-weather sports with Winter finally ready to turn it up a few notches, but a reader was curious about the Hoboken Kickball league, and when they’re starting up their Spring season, what it costs, etc.
She mentioned that she tried emailing them and got no response.
Anyone here play in this league that might be able to help her out?
She’d appreciate it!

This is from Tony, who runs the league:
“thanks for the interest in the kickball league. The
Spring season will start early april/late march and
run for about 7-8 weeks. it’s $500 for a team to
join. right now there is a waiting list as I’m trying
to secure more field time. I’ll throw you on the list
and we’ll take it from there. I should know around
early march if i can add more teams, and how many.
thanks,
Tony

I don’t want to speak for Tony, but someone brought up expanding the league. The problem that he faces is that we have a limit on how long we can use the two fields. Currently there are 12 teams where 4 teams play each hour. So the fields are ours from 3-6pm in the spring season.

welcome to hoboken, where open grass is a rare find…all outdoors sports leagues have this same problem for adult and kids: HASL Soccer, Volleyball, Rugby, Flag Football, Kickball, Softball……and so on.

When I first saw the photo here of that kick ball field, I totally flashed back to childhood. Doesn’t shock me that they cut players – being that a child’s game sometimes is prone to childish rules, regardless if that excuse is misnomered “competitive”.
Does organized recreation imprison itself to formality? Does the concept “competition” translate to competitive cutting of smiling players? I say NO – as my left eyelid involuntarily twitches. WE can organize Kick Ball as an informal good time. WE can be competitive whether losing or winning. The point isn’t eliminition, but instead addition – may we add an unbridaled overload of giddiness to our latter child-like years.
Let us raise our ice cold misty mugs of blue koolaid and scream with arms painfully stretched up high,
“LET’S PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

As long as when I raise the cold misty mug of blue koolaid, it has booze in it, I’m all in.

That one team doesn’t cut players during the season. Only after the season has ended, they choose not to ask them to come back. There are a few teams who are there for the fun and a few teams who are there for both fun and to be competitive. But it’s not as die hard as some are making it. Everyone goes to the bar afterwards and has a few drinks, if they haven’t already been drinking during the game to begin with

I’m the one that requested the info. I’m currently trying to get my friends to play, but if you’re seriously interested and Tony lets us know that he got room for more teams, we probably will need to recruit more people.

Agreed. It gets even worse when you see single men and women in their 30′s and 40′s playing this game. They fucked up somewhere in their life if this is the highlight of their week.
The theme of their happy hours is “where did we go wrong? Get me another drink”

You guys need to lighten up cause you’re missing the point. It’s about having fun and meeting new people, which is what most people in this town are looking to do. And if that’s not your thing, then don’t play…

Ignore that troll Paco. Every comment from this moron recently has been to denigrate people he doesn’t know for doing things like going on vacation, going out to eat for dinner, and now playing a game and socializing. Paco is a loser troll probably sitting home alone stewing in his own filth lashing out at others.
