Dangerous Hoboken Job: Window Washers

[Continuing the ORIGINAL Hoboken411 “Photo of the Day” series…]

Would you be a window washer in Hoboken NJ?

I’ve always been enamored by the job window washers have.

For one, they have great views – especially on buildings like the W Hotel. Additionally, they essentially have peace and quiet while they’re up there doing their job. No nagging boss or annoying co-workers spying on them. How many jobs have such serenity?

One thing, though – job requires that you’re not afraid of heights!

Hoboken Photo of the Day – 11/10/2010

You have to appreciate the regular guys that risk their lives to make the upscale living possible for those living in Maxwell Place uptown. These fellas from a Bergen County window-cleaning business hang precariously from ropes to ensure that residents have a nice clear view of the high property taxes across the Mile Square city we love!

PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!

Just thought I’d post this…..let us also not forget about Hoboken F.D.’s Rescue Co. 1 who trains on rescuing these individuals god forbid they get stuck up there!
Just one of many specialties of Rescue 1 that your tax dollars pay for that you may not know about.

    Cool image!

I always wonder what these window washers inadvertently see in a given work-week. I once stayed in a high rise hotel before a big exam, to concentrate and get a good night’s sleep. I got out of the shower in the afternoon right after checking in (luckily wrapped in a towel) and one of these dudes was in the window. It was pretty terrifying in the instant before I realized they were outside.

I guess residents know this is happening, though?

411, congrats, you’re really getting creative at ways to trash Hoboken government, and of course another favorite target, Maxwell. Window washing??? Really??????

Normally, I ask that if you have a problem with the publisher (me) you do it via email. However, since this was a “creative” photo I posted I said sure, why not.

But it gives me an opportunity to say a few things about your snotty comment.

      1. You don’t understand the positive feedback I’ve received from thousands of Hoboken residents who appreciate that at least one media outlet is holding the “government” (if you even want to call it that – more like “amateur club”) accountable for what decisions they make (or lack thereof).

      2. Do you really want to forget the promises made by the current administration? Their “detailed plan” to cut taxes, etc.? They certainly want you to.

      3. How was Maxwell Place a target? Explain that to me.

Regardless – I do agree with one thing. I love expressing myself creatively, and enjoy working with various forms of media (words, photos, videos, etc.)

Have a nice day. [quote comment=”199816″]411, congrats, you’re really getting creative at ways to trash Hoboken government, and of course another favorite target, Maxwell. Window washing??? Really??????
