For the grammar nutjobs

Grammar Nutjobs – Grammar Nazis – the attacks continue {even worse now!}

You know how the political “divide” seems to be getting worse these days? MINUTIAE is now considered a major play in the realm of debate and discussion!

Such as whether your wording or spelling or formatting is “perfect” or not? Or how cherry-picked comparisons are used without any real thought? (i.e., President Trump’s inauguration attendance numbers…)

Today – people will adopt ANY tidbit in order to gain a (perceived) advantage or to use these weak attacks in order to muddy the conversation or as they like to say, “move the goal posts…”

These are both signs of the millennial generation (who lack the capability of deep thought among many other missing attributes), as well as those “caught up in the fray” of the nonsensical path our (once) sensible discourse used to take.

Argument is difficult in 2017

I’m fascinated at how real discussions have fallen by the wayside – in what seems like just a couple decades.

Conversations are much shorter. Interest in others is almost non-existent. Intellect seems “digitized.” And by that I mean, “consult the Googuhl Brain” for answers about life… More people dip their heads down for instant gratification (or confirmation).

Talking about, let’s call them “hot button topics,” is almost impossible. Because it appears that everyone has their minds made up already. For whatever the myriad of reasons may be. Most often it’s either what MSM is parroting – or what an individual’s “trusted” circle of friends is spewing. You cannot veer far from that path for most indoctrinated and mentally-enslaved morons out there anymore.

And God-Forbid you introduce a concept that is outside their realm of belief. The conversation at that point is effectively over. They’ll either:

  • Walk away
  • Talk over you
  • Cite nonsensical sources
  • Cry

No interaction to be had. No questions to be answered. No investigation takes place. No “let me test his or her theories” is afforded.

The challenge is gone – because no one wants it

This is why talking to most people who have polar opposite opinions about almost anything is a lost cause. They do not challenge you to prove them wrong. Why? Because they DO NOT WANT to be wrong about their beliefs. Their sole purpose is to back up and defend what (they think) they know.

I’d be blown away if someone (just once) told me, “I’m all ears. Display your evidence about your (opposite) belief – and I will investigate what you have provided – and come back in a week or two with my summation and response.”

No.

Today – it’s all about the now. The instant. The “prove it on the spot or go to hell” mentality.

In the end – it’s mostly emotion

Most of these stubborn people out there (regardless of what the “wrong” belief is) are ruled by almost child-like emotions. They do not have the capability to open their minds – expand the scope of their beliefs.

As if thinking a little harder (and often getting information that is contrary to their pre-defined beliefs) is devastating – instead of revelational!

Maybe it comes down to pride and ego.

How many of you enjoy saying “well, I was wrong – I apologize?”

If you get the point – shut the fuck up

I veered off course.

A competent adult – in having an online conversation about the written word – should (most of the time) OVERLOOK common grammar errors.

IF YOU GET THE MESSAGE – regardless if a word was spelled correctly or not – DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND KEEP THE ERROR TO YOURSELF.

Throwing a conversation off because of what was either ignorance or a simple typing error – ADDS NO VALUE.

Perhaps if there was a condition that everyone had to be linguistically perfect – sure. But in the fast-paced world of online verbiage-spewing – JUST LET IT GO.

Nothing more annoying than a grammar nazi. They certainly had terrifying childhoods. No doubt about that one!

Something to keep in mind every time you engage in or observe an online conversation.

See a brief editorial and video from over six years ago below… Our sentiments only grow sharper.

Come back to earth grammar snobs!

11/10/2010:

It’s often said that when you don’t have a decent retort in a debate, you attack someone’s grammar or other particulars that have little significance to the discussion (or fight).

The video below goes out to all the high-maintenance freaks who obsess with being “perfect” in the use of language by others.

“Don’t be afraid to write (or express yourself!) There will always be hypercritical (and hypocritical) trolls in the world ready to pounce on your every mistake. They are largely inconsequential, tiring people. Ignore them!”

Want to hear something funny? I know several grammar nazis that have no problem constructing social media sentences #using #nothing #but #hashtags, yet they still find fault in others. They claim the medium is different, and it is okay.

So the medium allows them to be practically incohesive, they gripe about others?

Illogical.

Either you are or you are not

mooshu..This is why professors getz and brix are on here and cover just about every topic …They feel a sense of power over those such as myself who’s typing is not near as eloquent as their threads. This site is where they feel a sense of power, and toss insults at others and get away from the topic at hand maybe because they disagree..mooshu you
never have to explain who you are or what your about..btw moosh you can decipher my posts ..The key is some should push themselves away from the keyboards they hide behind and confront those they insult face to face..mooshu betcha your can figure that post out..

Yes, I can decipher your posts. It takes me a little time, but it’s because we express ourselves differently from one another. Not a big “wah-wah” deal, wisk.

I haven’t witnessed getz and HansBrix having a field day on your writing. And, well, I happen to especially like HansBrix’s attitude and posts on 411 threads. His/her head is exactly where it’s supposed to be, if you know what I mean…[quote comment=”199891″]mooshu..This is why professors getz and brix are on here and cover just about every topic …They feel a sense of power over those such as myself who’s typing is not near as eloquent as their threads. This site is where they feel a sense of power, and toss insults at others and get away from the topic at hand maybe because they disagree..mooshu you

Face to face? To what end? So that you can bully someone physically because your posts fail to impress anyone? Well, as much as a 67 year old man can bully anyone I suppose. Whatever, you can keep your fantasy keyboard toughguy schtick. I say that because you’re pretty much the only person here who routinely calls people out to meet for “coffee and bandaids”. I know your type. When logic and common sense back you against the wall, you think that challenging someone to a fist fight somehow proves you’re right. What I find equally amusing is how you think that just because someone can read and write properly that somehow means you can slap them. Good luck with that pal, these days people know all kinds of stuff, and you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. I’ve seen little guys whup big guys, skinny guys beat up muscle-heads, scrawny be-speckled nerds and cute chicks tap out guys who look like marines. Of course that works both ways, and the fact of the matter is you don’t know until you see it happen. So be nice. You go online and make it a point to antagonize people, then you don’t like when you get some back at you. If you can’t stand the heat, turn off the computer and stop going online if you’re gonna get all butt-hurt over it. You’re taking it a hell of a lot more seriously than any adult should.[quote comment=”199891″]mooshu..This is why professors… Read more »

Sorry you had such a tough life Wiskey, maybe you should see a shrink and cry about it a little. Maybe you’ll feel better and stop being such a sour-puss.

What you know about me would fit in your shot-glass.[quote comment=”199932″]Easy E im pretty sure your a web surfer and a zimmerette..Your on your best behavior here or you know you will be your marching orders. I need to watch that movie again. [quote comment=”199921″]*shrug* I am pretty sure your real name isn’t Wiskeytango1. Do you know what a hypocrite is?Either way, I don’t care who you are. *YOU* care that *I* know who you are. Do not go gentle into that good night,

Likewise, some highly educated people I encounter all the time can sometimes come across barely literate, failing to distinguish between possessive and plurals, its vs it’s, etc. And the occasional malapropism. Actually, I think it a lot of it comes down to regular reading – or lack thereof.

A decade ago I had a roommate who went to Penn, had his NYU MBA but had a knack for the idiot savant routine. One day he was wondering around the apartment with only one of his rollerblades put on: step thump step thump and so on. I called him Captain Ahab and got a blank stare in return. He was completely mystified. [quote comment=”199833″]The same goes for spelling….did you understand what grammer was in the previous post? Thanks for bringing that up. My parents sure didn’t have a shot at much of a higher education. My mother accomplished certification in a field she enjoyed later in life, though.

It’s really not cool to be a grammar snob. We can teach others how to spell and correctly express something without being a jackass. Spelling has been eliminated all together in certain school curriculums throughout Hudson County. Very scary.[quote comment=”199833″]The same goes for spelling….did you understand what grammer was in the previous post? You’re right about spelling being eliminated as a separate subject. It’s a very bad mistake on the part of educators. They are trying out some “new” and “improved” programs (these are inadequate as compared to the traditional teaching methods). The national right to read foundation does not look to favorably upon this. Here’s a link:

Your can not write if you cannot think. Grammer is secondary to thought. Perfect grammar does not mean that one’s writings are based on fact, knowledge and wisdom. Just my two cents. Thank you….
