2010 Hoboken Music Awards
Mark your calendars!
Hoboken Music Awards: Nov. 20th at Northern Soul
The Hoboken Music Awards were started in 2009 by Dave Entwistle.
Entwistle is the long-time host of the Peoples Open Mic, a weekly showcase for local artists in town. The concept of the awards was to honor those artists and the people who help promote the music scene in and around the Hoboken area. The inaugural event, held at the defunct Goldhawk (now The Turtle Club), was a huge success. This year’s event, planned with the help of local writer Stephen Bailey, is happy to call Northern Soul (557 1st St.) it’s home.
Throughout this past year, Northern Soul has really established itself as a lot more than just another neighborhood bar in Hoboken. It has embraced original live music in a way that has not been seen in a while. They’ve helped to fill the void left by many lost venues. Each week, the Peoples Open Mic and Live Music Thursdays have brought artists (including many of our nominees) to the ears and hearts of Hoboken.
This year’s nominating process have been streamlined to give more support for artists who regularly play in Hoboken. The categories are:
- Outstanding Male Solo
- Outstanding Female Solo
- Outstanding Band
- Outstanding Scene Contributor
- Outstanding Album
- Outstanding EP
- and finally a Peoples Choice Award where the public gets to nominate whoever they want.

Here’s a Northern Soul video I dug up from nearly two and a half years ago. Amazing how far technology has come in such a short time… maybe it’s time to re-do my older stuff (i.e., “remixes!”)
