HHA Admin Building dedicated to DeFazio
Hoboken Housing Authority honored DeFazio
The Hoboken Housing Authority proudly dedicated its administration building, located at 400 Harrison St., to the late M. Edward DeFazio yesterday. DeFazio served as the authority’s first executive director from 1949 to 1975.
DeFazio was born and raised in the City of Hoboken. He was a graduate of Fordham University and Seton Hall Law School. He is a distinguished veteran who served in World War II. DeFazio is the father of Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio as well as Joseph DeFazio. DeFazio is the grandfather of Maria and Marc.
DeFazio served the authority from its inception, creating affordable housing to the many residents of Hudson County in times of need. He was dedicated to the residents of both Hoboken and the entire county. Through his dedication to public housing over 1,000 affordable housing units were created.
“The continued success of the Hoboken Housing Authority is owed to M. Edward DeFazio. Within in all spheres of his life, he was a model to the residents and employees of the housing authority,” said Hoboken Housing Authority Executive Director Carmelo Garcia.
DeFazio’s son, Edward, Hudson County prosecutor, told a story about DeFazio’s only request for his funeral. His request was to be driven by “his buildings” referring to the housing authority building. Dr. Joseph DeFazio spoke about his father’s commitment to the residents and how thankful the family was to receive this special honor.
