Windshield Tweet: Delivery Amnesty

10/13/2010:

[Continuing the ORIGINAL Hoboken411 “Windshield Twittering” series…]

I am feeding people and will be right back!

How do you feel about this type of Hoboken Windshield Tweet?

It’s obvious there are countless food establishments that deliver in Hoboken (like Mr. Wraps pictured below). But how can they run their business if they don’t park illegally (either double parking or intersection parking) much of the time?

  • One logical response might be: “Ride a bike” or something along those lines.
  • But for busy establishments, would a bike always be prudent? (I know Sri Thai, H&S Giovanni, and many other places that do fine with just bicycles).
  • What about businesses that also deliver to surrounding cities?
  • Should temporary “delivery zones” be establish on each and every street in Hoboken to allow for short-term parking?

[Stay tuned for the next Windshield Twittering entry!Note: Feel free to share your wiper-spottings – just email Hoboken411 with a clear photo or two, where you spotted it and how you’d like to be credited… ]

How about scooters?

Double parking is f*cking dangerous. Stop it.

I don’t see a delivery man double parking as a problem. It’s usually a very quick process, and as long as theres enough room for traffic to get by then by all means!! I think all restaurants should place some sort of placard in the window of the car to let everyone know that it’s just a delivery, and the car will be moved quickly.

I’m surprised that 411 would suggest giving these delivery places designated parking spaces after all the complaining that did, when Hertz got a couple parking spaces. Everyone else in town double parks, I think as long as they’re quick about it it’s fine. Especially since we would have to wait extra long (especially in bad weather) to get food delivered from a bike!

I didn’t take it as 411 making any such suggestion – just seemed like a pretty comprehensive list of possibilities to spark a few ideas. We can debate it all we want, I guess, but there really is no solution to such problems in Hoboken! At least they have the respect and courtesy to let you know they will be a minute or two…..most shit-heads just double park and go out drinking or go on Facebook in their apartments while you sit outside blowing the horn for 20 minutes. Then when they come out they act like they did nothing wrong!
