More Hertz Favoritism in Hoboken

10/5/2010:

No street cleaning tickets even when parked elsewhere!

Below are pictures taken of a Hertz on Demand (formerly Connect by Hertz) Corner Car situation in the 4th Ward.

The person returned the car to the wrong spot (one reserved for standard cars) and just took off. The street cleaner came by and the Hertz on Demand Car – despite not being in it’s designated green spot – did not receive a summons. If you or I parked here – we’d get ticketed and towed (for being in the hydrant zone)!

Local businesses are quite displeased with these corner cars – saying that customers are having a harder time finding parking for their cars.

Quite a few residents I spoke with wish these hourly rental cars were in parking garages where they belong – and not on public streets.

LMAO. …..and you “think” the mayor and her stooges are going to take demands from the public? You didn’t even have INPUT for these cars being put there in the first place.
i think we need to get some pettions or make alot more noise so the mayor and her stooges no that the majority of people in hoboken are tired of her bxllsxit get those cars off the street
Actually, the City’s website had a thing where you could vote for and request where these cars would be parked on a map.

I voted a bunch of times for areas near the light rail away from my apartment. Of course 2 ended up going on my street anyway, but hey, at least they pretended to take input. Yes homeworld, the city website asked “where” you’d like them, not, “if” you would want them. This was already decided by the brainstorms in city hall. In the past, these items were brought up at council meeting for public debate. Remember the pedi-cabs? This admin now decides what good for everybody like it or not.
Actually, the City’s website had a thing where you could vote for and request where these cars would be parked on a map.I voted a bunch of times for areas near the light rail away from my apartment. These rental cars don’t belong parked on the street. We have parking garages in town with empty spaces. Stick these cars in garages where they belong, not taking up space on the street.

Agreed…and the spots are huge for those tiny little pos. I could not find a spot once and actually parked half in the Hertz spot there was stiill room for that pos and my car. How do you even rent one of these cars if you want to? There’s no information at the parking spaces, so I assume you have to go somewhere else in town to sign the contract and get the keys anyway. What’s the logic behind parking these cars on precious street corners if you can’t just get in and drive away? Or can you? I never could figure that out.

What needs to be looked into is “what is Zimmers stake” in this venture?

Regardless of what deal was signed with the City of Hoboken concerning the selective enforcement of parking summons regarding Hertz, it is a violation of state law and illegal for enforcement officers to not issue summons to violators upon executive order of the Mayors Office. That immediately discredits any and all other parking tickets issued………

The Hoboken Police can intervene and issue the tickets for the violations regardless of what the Mayors wants because what is taking place is outright illegal.
