Animal Control issues

A reader sent this in:

possum.jpg“I live downtown in the first ward, and last night a GIGANTIC possom was milling in my backyard. I didn’t realize it until I let my dog (an Engligh Bulldog / Boston Terrier mix – 29lbs) out to go to the bathroom. They almost had it out! It was very scary. This wild beast was at least 15lbs heavier than my dog, and probably filled with disease.

I just called Hoboken Animal Control and they told me they don’t trap in the winter time. Do you know of anyone else in Hoboken that would take care of this for me? I would die if he got hurt.

I told them it was 60 degrees outside, and winter doesn’t actually start until the 21st! She angrily said she didn’t care. Great. The number I called was 973-824-7080.

I’m even willing to pay someone to deal with this situation. Any ideas?”

Other than shooting the animal yourself (which is sorta mean), what do you suggest she do?

can’t believe nobody was all over this…

I come from atop the mountain baby
Where the people come to pray
I come from atop the mountain baby
Where the people come to pray
There ain’t no truth in action
‘Less you believe it anyway

I was riding down the road one day and
Someone hit a possum
I was riding down the road one day and
Someone hit a possum
The road was his end
His end was the road
So they say

Whoa possum…
possum, possum…
POSSUM
Whoa possum…
possum, possum…
POSSUM
Whoa possum, possum
Your end is the road

Like Cat said, don’t bother them and they won’t bother you. I can’t see why some are freeked out by them.

Now, Robert’s Cronies(Nothorobertus Croniepithecus) are another story. They are not to be provoked. If encountered don’t make eye contact. Move slowly and steadily away making no sudden movements. Know to squander city budgets and convert anything they get their hands on into Luxury Condos.

Why is it a problem to have an oppossum or skunk around? Mostly they ignore us, and opossums are typically nocturnal. Just don’t bother them. They aren’t interested in bothering you.
