Hoboken needs help with math

9/21/2010:

A&P helps you with challenging math!

Hoboken411 reader and Mile Square resident Russ found this sign amusing at the A&P Supermarket this past weekend. He thought the midtown market “lacked confidence in the Hoboken education system.”

I thought for a brief minute they had the spelling wrong – but that’s not the case according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, as the plural of Avocado can be spelled both Avocadoes and Avocados.

[Stay tuned for the next Readerpix entry! – Note: one reader’s photo(s) will be featured from time to time. Unless your photo is time-sensitive – it will be published in the order it was received! Additional note: Your pictures will have a better chance of being published if they’re in “landscape” mode, as opposed to the taller “portrait” modes… ]

My favorite signs are the ones written on street corners, with curbs that read “NOT A SPOT.”

No one really obeys them, but those signs never fail to make me smile.

Maybe the A&P should worry more about spelling…. its avocados not avocadoes. Thats the embarrassing part! 💡

You need to be a quant to figure out how much you are going to pay for something at the drug store these days. CVS is putting math equations on their sale price stickers. One item is $2.79, but if you buy 5 it will cost you $10, but not really because you need to have a club card that gives you the money you’ll save back on your receipt for a future purchase, so you will actually put out more cash up front and give CVS a loan. I’ve seen more than one non-quant stand in front of the shelf staring at the price label trying to figure it all out.

Let’s not forget the bodega at 3rd and Garden that sells “Sandwishes.” And right now there is a sign on the south side of city hall that lets us know this is where “Prisioners” are taken for court. Is wiskeytango1 the official Hoboken sign maker?
