Rome Pizza: New Ownership

9/10/2010:

Rome Pizza has new owners; wants fresh reputation

The owners of Rome Pizza contacted me recently hoping to have some of the negative comments associated with the previous Rome owners removed.

While I understand his concerns – I decided to create this fresh new entry instead – and have closed the comments and made note of the new ownership in the old thread.

New concept, new design, new management

Owner Scott Faherty wants Hoboken residents to come down to 20 Hudson Place and check out the cleaned up version of Rome Pizza.

They’ve kept the pizza essentially the same – because he says they still get many compliments. Some changes include a new vodka sauce and meatballs recipe. Other changes include late weekend hours as well.

The previous owners didn’t keep the house in order very well – and made quite a mess. Scott whipped the place back into shape, and even added cool Rock N’ Roll decor from Ocean Clark (which is also for sale if you want to buy one!)

Description: Pizza restaurant. Also serving sandwiches, lunch specials. Open late Thursday – Saturday. Free delivery.
Address: 20 Hudson Place, Hoboken, NJ 07030
Phone: 201-683-9600

While re-branding may be “tricky,” I think it’s really important for you. Look at the reviews for Rome Pizza on Yelp, one of the most popular review sites: yelp.com/biz/rome-pizzeria-and-grill-hoboken#query:rome%20pizza

It has 2 out of 5 stars. Nobody is going to realize that those ratings apply to the old Rome pizza. But if you changed your name to something else, those negative reviews wouldn’t be assoicated with your new establishment.

Also, was it your doing to take Rome Pizza off of delivery.com?

Tried the pizza under the new ownership – pretty good. Will definitely go back.

Unfortunately, a rock song wasn’t sung to me 😥

Unlikely to give it another shot, even if there is a new owner. If you cannot be bothered to change the name which is relatively easy, why would I expect the food and service to be any better?

Also, for a place named “Rome” pizza, I am surprised they are not selling Lazio style pizza. Doesn’t really matter as most wouldn’t know the difference, but I think it is odd.

Everyone – what’s going on here??? The owner of Rome really shouldn’t have to defend any of his actions at all.

-He decided to keep the name. For whatever reasons he has. Maybe it will be a detriment, maybe it will not. I’m sure your advice has been duly noted.

-He spoke of the owner in third person. Big deal! Yes, it sort of threw me off too, but making the transition from being anonymous might be a little tricky when there are attacks against the person in question.

-As for the excessive unrefunded tip. Seriously? Why not just say ‘hey buddy…my change?’ Not so hard to do. It sounds like the owner was going above and beyond on the night in question. Honestly, it was probably a bad idea… I know from experience that the more you over-extend yourself to make things happen- the less is works out, and the less it is appreciated, but GIVE THE GUY A BREAK.

I wish the place luck, and drive by every evening. Whereas I wouldn’t have previously stopped to give it a try, I now will.. .. . .

I would be leery about the new owners simply being the “previous” owners were such scumbags and thieves that made so many enemies in that area chances are they just changed the owners name to a friend…….

Anyone who was aware of the previous ownership would recognize that the current ownership is a completely different organization.

The management staff is completely different. A new POS system has been installed. There is a significantly better attitude by the staff. And the decor has been completely re-done.

Check the place out for yourself and see if you see a difference? Anyone can change organization names with a small fee and a flick of a pen! Don’t matter and it is no guarantee the owners are new…hopefully they are being nobody goes there anyway![quote comment=”197351″]Anyone who was aware of the previous ownership would recognize that the current ownership is a completely different organization.
