U Store It annoys uptown neighbors
City living need not be this disturbing
You’ve heard the complaints that some extra sensitive residents utter about noise in Hoboken – from loud streets (buses, motorcycles), drunken revelers, construction, etc. Many times the snippy response back from the less easy-to-disturb is “this is city living, if you want quiet – move to the suburbs!”
However, this aggravating burglar alarm that goes off at the U Store It self-storage facility at 11th and Grand Streets is unacceptable no matter which locale you decide to live in. And if you’ve been listening to the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel as long as I have – this “false alarm” has disturbed area neighbors dozens of times over the past few years. And often at cruel hours.
Reader Adam sent this video clip in and said: “I wanted to pass along a quick video which is a TORTURE to those of us that live uptown – specifically around 11th & Grand – For about 20 – 30 minutes – the Door alarm at U-Store-It was going off… It is not the first time -or my guess – the last time – it will happen! This was at about 11:30pm… In the past, it has gone off at 12:30am or later… “
At what point should the business be punished for repeat offenses to the point where they’ll have good reason to address the issue and prevent future occurrences?
Instead of fines to the city – I think the business owner should have to throw a free block party (complete with tasty burgers and ice cold beer) each time it happens.
