Girls Softball team in RBI Playoffs
Hoboken Shockers Girls want to win RBI World Series
Congratulations to the girls from the Hoboken Shockers softball team for making the RBI Playoffs! They’re one of eight teams playing three games apiece this week (including yesterday) to determine seedings for the interleague playoffs (two games), and then the final championship game which is 1pm Saturday, August 14th. The games are being played in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) is a league setup that promotes organized sports in areas that may not have enough. Hoboken was added to this league as part of a recent expansion – and has already vaulted up to the playoffs in their first year. They are sponsored by the Hudson County Boys & Girls Club, and were Northeast Region Champions.
You can read the whole story here at MLB.com – including some comments from individuals who feel that the Hoboken Shockers team is “unfair,” stating that the league is supposed to be more casual – to help under-privileged kids learn the game. Those commenters said the Hoboken team was stacked with all-stars. I guess they don’t like the beating they took from the skilled Hoboken girls.
