Carlo’s Complaints keep rolling in

8/6/2010:

Resident feels city handles Cake Boss popularity poorly

Hoboken411 gets quite a few Cake Boss complaints each week, but most are short one or two sentence emails along the same line.

But reader Eric thinks the situation is being allowed to remain out of control, and that the city administration isn’t doing enough:

“Every town should want a place like Carlo’s, except Hoboken.

It’s very simple, the town can’t afford to have major traffic jams and cars parked illegally just to see a mediocre Italian baker. It’s getting obnoxious. I tried to walk up to 1st street today from Observer and it was like a labyrinth trying to navigate the crowds.

It’s typical for Hoboken to manage this situation poorly and they should really monitor the double parking situation better close to Carlo’s. I’m happy for the owners, but they should have to pay for the double parking and crowd control. I can’t wait to see our taxes go up to help pay for Cake Boss season 3.”

I f*cking hate this racket of a show.

However, on the bright side, all the buffoons seem to be clustered in one section of Hoboken. And all we have to do is avoid the shop.

All I see from Carlo’s is $$$. This is great for local businesses. Suburbanites come to our city, walk around, shop and eat at local restaurants. It’s GREAT having people come to our CITY for a reason other than getting hammered.

People need to relax and remember that there are business owners that LIKE having the added attention and customers.

That is wishful thinking. Fact is that they are not walking around much further than Starbuck’s around the corner. These people are fat suburbanites, they don’t walk. They stand in line, and drive everywhere else. It would be nice if they were pumping money in to this town, but not really. All they want is Cake Boss, stuff their face with some cupcakes or something and then drive home.[quote comment=”195718″]All I see from Carlo’s is $$$. This is great for local businesses. But no one has a problem with the weekend drunken revelry? Cars cruising up and down Washington, drivers on cell phones. Pedestrians almost being hit because drivers aren’t paying attention. People waiting in line for a bar screaming to their friends half a block away. Broken bottles on our doorsteps because patrons (illegally) left a bar carrying a drink or a beer.

I’ll take the suburbanites waiting for the Cake Boss any day.

Im sure many people have a problem with the “drunken revlry” but this article is about the cake boss lines not weekend drinkers on washington street.

I think some of the suggestions from the readers here make a lot of sense and would help bring some of the craziness of these lines down. Hooray to you Jasper. This is about Cake Boss and nothing more. I was crossing 1st and Washington this morning and an SUV stopped in the middle of the street so that the screaming fans can yell out the windows and take pictures. Do they understand there’s traffic behind them???? Or how about last night waiting for the bus to go down Washington Street. As the bus was approaching, again a vehicle stopped in it’s tracks to take pictures. They were almost rearended by the 126, would serve them right 👿 I am so tired of the rude tourists coming into our town and the city says revenue, what revenue, not all utilize our shops and/or restaurants (unless they are looking for a bathroom). Do you actually think they will buy their precious pastries and/or cakes and walk around Washington Street in this heat to shop around, I think not. How many locals will still patronize the bakery once the crowds die down. I was told they don’t take orders on the phone for pastries (which I have purchase for over 30 years), do they expect me to stand on those lines to buy a pound of pastries.[quote comment=”195679″]Im sure many people have a problem with the “drunken revlry” but this article is about the cake boss lines not weekend drinkers on washington street.
