Fabco Shoes: Yep, Starbucks!

9/2/2008 Update:

Some of you might already know that this fourth Starbucks Coffee location opened up last week, giving you yet another over-priced national coffee chain location to avoid!

Unless you want Hoboken to turn into the “Mile Square Strip Mall,” you should probably be reminded to support the few remaining local coffee shops such as Dames, Empire, and even the fantastic Sweet. Independently owned business are one of the reasons many residents love our town, so make sure you show it!

Disclaimer: I have been known to frequent Dunkin’ Donuts from time to time, and once or twice a year I treat myself to a Starbucks Mint Mocha Frappucino, which is pretty damn tasty. Note to local coffee shops: Mint Mocha coffee is like liquid crack. Please add it to your offerings, and I’ll never frequent Starbucks again!

See other caffeinated updates after the jump…

7/31/2008 Update:

One Hoboken411 reader sent this cameraphone picture in today, thinking this “new” Starbucks might have fallen victim to their recent “meltdown,” as they were meddling with the letters above the entrance:

Below is a picture I took two days ago.. maybe those were just “temporary” letters, and will be replaced with a more formal sign?

5/12/2008 Update:

It’s true! At least one of the two rumored Starbucks Coffee Shops are coming… this one replacing the doomed Fabco Shoes:

See Fabco before it’s “dooming” below…

4/21/2008:

Are they just doomed, or remodeling? Here’s what one reader had to say…

“I noticed 2 trucks from Fabco cleaning out the store at 314 Washington Street – all the stock and fixtures are gone. Maybe file this under “No Big Loss”, but it looks like they may be doomed.

Hey, I bought my first pair of Totes snow boots there this past winter (never used them once).. I actually tried them on yesterday before I put them in storage and realized the size 13 boots I have were obviously wrong. They were like size 18! Next winter I’ll have to wear six pairs of socks to use them. Ugh. Too late to return them now!

Find me a conveniently located coffee (or shall I say tea?) shop that makes a great chai tea latte and I’ll be there. Starbucks has it down to a science and that is the only reason I go.
starbucks actually uses a mix to make their chai tea lattes, so it is not so much “tea” as sugar syrup. some places use the actual chai TEA to make lattes, though people aren’t so fond because it isn’t super sweet that way.
I don’t consider myself an expert, but I like the chai tea lattes at Hoboken Gourmet. I’m pretty sure they don’t use a mix since I get mine with soy.
i dunno what hoboken gourmet uses, but any milk or soy product can be added to a chai “mix” to create a chai drink. so using soy doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t a premade mix. the only place in hoboken that i know of which uses REAL chai (aka: chai tea bags) is ganache. most coffee places these days use the powder or syrup mixes which are not so good for you but pack a lot of sweetness.
I supported Jordans, but then Coldstone put them out of business.

I supported Emac and Bolios, then they went out of business…

Where can I get icecream now?
Try Double Treats. Or Hobos. No wait, they’re both out of business too.
