THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR HUDSON COUNTY IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY UNTIL 515 PM EDT

AT 207 PM EDT… NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED TORRENTIAL RAIN FROM THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH ACROSS THE REGION. THIS RAIN WILL CAUSE FLOODING ON AREA ROADWAYS.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS… URBAN AREAS… HIGHWAYS… STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD.

WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE… TURN AROUND… DONT DROWN.

WHEN YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY…PLEASE REPORT FLOODING TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AT 1-800-226-0217.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON NY HAS ISSUED A FLOOD ADVISORY FOR HUDSON COUNTY IN NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY.

    UNTIL 500 PM EDT

AT 300 PM EDT… DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN DUE TO THUNDERSTORMS. THIS WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING IN THE ADVISORY AREA. THE AREA WILL BE MOVING ACROSS STATEN ISLAND… EASTERN UNION NEW JERSEY… EASTERN ESSEX NEW JERSEY… HUDSON NEW JERSEY AS WELL AS NORTHWEST BROOKLYN AND SOUTHERN MANHATTAN BEFORE 430 PM. RAIN RATES WILL VARY BETWEEN A HALF TO ONE INCH PER HOUR.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE NEW YORK… NEWARK… JERSEY CITY… ELIZABETH… BAYONNE… HOBOKEN…

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS… HIGHWAYS… STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED… OR PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES
    AWAY.

Flash Flood Watch in effect until 11am! Yikes! Big rain may head our way!

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS EXPANDED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHEAST NEW YORK… INCLUDING HUDSON COUNTY.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE AS A COLD FRONT SINKS INTO THE AREA.

HEAVY RAIN WITH RAINFALL RATES AS HIGH AS 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING…ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS… AND IN LOCATIONS THAT RECEIVED HEAVY RAIN FROM THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING. TRAINING OF CELLS OVER THE SAME AREAS COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER 4 INCHES.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
