Defecating Hertz

I didn’t get the memo that today was “National Homeless Freedom to Unleash Bodily Substances Day”, but apparently it is. This time some homeless guy squats to release the hounds at the Hertz location on 14th and Willow. I mean, I don’t like Hertz either, but I’d still do my business elsewhere.

Yep, there are certainly some interesting characters wandering the streets of ‘boken. I wonder if other surrounding cities (Union City, Jersey City, etc) have a similar number of homeless per capita or whether Hoboken is more attractive as a homeless destination…

That’s Mike, AKA Capt. Fun. I’ve known him for close to twenty years. I always throw him and his girlfriend a couple of bucks when I see them. They’re both a little off, but very nice.

Is either of those two guys the really big one with curlyish dark hair who used to always have a yellow radio? I used to see him a lot around Newark St. between Hudson and Washington. Haven’t seen num lately. Occasionally he would be on the PATH with his (assuming) girlfriend. He was actually one of the few homeless in Hoboken I didn’t have a real problem with. Nice enough guy, not quite all there, and had a long conversation with myself and a couple others in Boston Market a while back about how great he thought Gino Vannelli was. Always pleasant, never aggressive.

Others I haven’t seen for a while – Shouting Willie (he left us a number of years ago) and the guy with the crutches/wheelchair who was always in your face asking for money – and later at night would get picked up by a black Mercedes.

There are/were two fat bearded guys I know of. The one guy was really big, always wore a jacket no matter how hot it was out. I would see him outside of the downtown starbucks alot. He died at St. Mary’s. Diabetic coma. My wifes aunt was next door to him after St. Mary’s almost killed her(long story). The other guy I know of is Mike. Wears glasses and has his girlfriend with him sometimes. Mike’s got some family up the hill. Really nice guy but has some mental problems. We call him Capt. Fun.

I remember a while ago how someone said that the younger guy wanted to live the lifestyle of a homeless guy,and that his brother is well off and tried to get him to come off the streets but he refused… Although you’re right, I haven’t seen him in quite a long time..
As for the screaming guy, if I’m not mistaken, he died last year… I forget the cause, but I’m pretty sure he died… Though always sad when someone departs this land, at least he will no longer be scaring people walking down the street by screaming obscenities at them for no apparent reason…
