Fireworks, parking, detours

7/2/2010:

Best bet: early arrival, public transport or parking garages

If you have friends or family visiting Hoboken on Sunday, July 4th to see the second consecutive year of Macy’s Fireworks on the Hudson – keep in mind that traffic will be a nightmare at all entrances to town. Specifically, after 9pm southern access to the city will be limited to Marin Boulevard – so advise everyone accordingly. I also recommend that visitors consider using one of the parking garages on the fringe of town, and just walking to the waterfront. It’ll save a lot of hassle.

Also – many residents were a bit angered that the entire west side of Hudson Street had no parking for the 24 hours of July 4th as well. Considering the vast amount of traffic entering town, this is probably a wise precaution to take. Because in the case of a vehicular accident, the entire road will not be blocked, causing even worse backups. This also allows space for emergency vehicles to pass easier if necessary. It’s only a day, and you’ll soon forget about it.

Prohibiting parking in the west side of Hudson will turn it into a two lane road. And, given the egos/assholes in the area, its going to look like:
