Domino’s new pizza: Verdict?

5/26/2010:

Domino’s re-vamped pizza formula – hype or real?

Even if you watch as little TV as I do (still haven’t caught the last eight hours of “24”) – you can’t help but catch a commercial for the New Domino’s Pizza recipe.

For die-hard pizza-lovers like Hoboken411, ordering from Domino’s usually only happens in a pinch, or if you’re in the mood for that taste. Hey – it’s edible, and cheap if you have a good coupon. Plus – they have a nifty pizza tracker online, which no other Hoboken Pizza place has.

Either way, after seeing the commercials, I had to try an order.

I used one of the “Any two medium two-topping pizzas for $5.99” coupon, and placed an order for extra robust sauce and onions. The order was promptly delivered in about 30 minutes.

While Domino’s claims that “it’s a completely new pizza from the crust up” – and that may be entirely true – it still tastes very similar to the old Domino’s pizza. If you blind-folded me without telling me it’s the new Domino’s pizza, I’d still stay “it’s Domino’s.”

However, that’s not saying the recipe hasn’t been improved. I still think the cheese is rather sub-par – but the sauce did get better by one notch, and the garlic-seasoned buttery crust was tasty, but definitely felt heavier – like the calories increased substantially (I don’t even want to know.)

Have you tried the new Domino’s Pizza Recipe? Was it worth waiting 50 years?

I was never an anti-Dominos guy. It was always OK to me. When it’s late night and i’m hankering for a simple pizza, Domino’s got the call until the day they build a Mac and Mancos near me (to go Ocean City, try it and get back to me).

Anyhow, not a fan of the new change. Ordered it twice and now I order from Papa John’s if i’m in the mood for late night ‘za.

I’d say it’s different, but not better. I still prefer the taste of many frozen pizzas to Domino’s and local pizza just blows it out of the water 90% of the time. They need to start using better tasting toppings, too. Bacon cheeseburger pizza can be amazing, but their beef and bacon is such crap!

I couldn’t tell the difference. I guess there’s only so much you can do to improve cardboard.

Personally I did not like the changes they made to the pizza crust. I agree with H411 that the additional garlic and oil make it too heavy. I wish they had the option of having a plain crust…. The sauce is better at least. Im pretty sure that probably no one, including myself, orders Domino’s regularly – too many other good options….. Grimaldi’s anyone?

I couldn’t tell ya — I’ve attempted to try it but anytime I’ve ordered from the Hoboken Domino’s, they’ve either left me on hold or they just don’t pick up my phone. I couldn’t even order a pizza to try this new amazing recipe they rave about.
