Yankee Ferry Open Boat this weekend!
Another Yankee Ferry Open Boat on Sunday!
I’m sure hoping this Yankee Ferry Open Boat post update here on Hoboken411 can give our beloved NY Yankees some good luck – since they’ve lost 8 of their last 10, and have fallen 0.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays!
Anyway, I digress… If you’re looking for something to do that’s completely “off the beaten path” here in Hoboken – then check out the Yankee Ferry Open Boat tour this Sunday, September 19th. For a small donation of $10, you can get full tours of the historic vessel “from an educational and private perspective,” and also buy one of Victoria Mackenzie-Childs unique “boat made” refreshments. If money is tight, and you’re still looking for a diversion – just come on over to the pier (13th and Sinatra) – and you can hear all about the Polka Dot Garden the eclectic couple constructed this spring (see video after the jump).
Any donation you make will contribute to the preservation of this boat – which is the last remaining Ellis Island Ferry from 1907.

Green “Polka Dot Garden” to make debut at Yankee Ferry, too!
Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs have to be some of the most interesting residents of Hoboken. For one, they live on the Yankee Ferry docked near the Shipyard Buildings uptown – and two – their eclectic styles and genuine spice for life.
This weekend, they’re having an Open Boat Tour (Saturday, May 22nd and Sunday, May 23rd from “high noon” to 9pm), where you can get guided tours of the vessel, enjoy “boat-made” “Polka Dot Pies,” and peruse some of the artwork they’ll have for sale. Definitely worth checking out for a couple hours!
But the highlight of the open boat weekend, is their revolutionary “Polka Dot Garden.”
This is one of those things that I had to give proper justice to – and let Victoria and Richard explain it to you in their own words (and colors). See the video I made yesterday below, and enjoy the tour this weekend!
