Hoboken Political Fliers

5/18/2010:

Why no law enforcement for political signs?

Hoboken is often referred to as “The Birthplace of Baseball,” “The Sixth Borough” and part of the “Gold Coast.”

Savvy residents also use other phrases like “All property is waterfront property,” “Double Parking Heaven” and “Pothole Central.” And you know very well, this town seems overwhelmed with political elections too. Each year, you have either a Council election, Mayoral election or Board of Education election. Nauseating to say the least.

An with those elections (and multiple run-off elections, lottery tickets and fraud) come the plethora of signs pleading you to get out and vote for someone. But the signs take weeks, if not months to come down.

When will the campaigns that litter our streets ever be held responsible for cleaning them up?

I find the political flyers kitsch and adding to the local color. Sometime after the governor’s election I saw a bunch of Corzine posters sprawled on the street and under cars. I think the Historical Society should display the pre-elcetion campaign fleyrs next to a news story with the actual results. For instance both the Cammaranno and Zimmer posters would be a hoot!

They’ll always play dumb, unless that crazy Donna is involved.
