Cabbie Commotion!

5/7/2010:

Out of control transportation headaches

Hoboken411 reader Ken from 77 River St. has an issue with the unruliness that takes place at the newly relocated taxi-stand downtown. Non-responding Hoboken “Transporation Czar” Ian Sacs had nothing to say about the ongoing problems, so assume they’ll continue until someone gets hurt.

“Ever since they moved the cabstand, there has been non-stop noise.

These guys get out of their cars scream, yell, bang things, and worst of all honk. Last night about 15 cabbies got into a fight, which ended when one screamed that he would, “Cut them all” and the cops were called. Two cruisers and one undercover car showed up to break up the fight. The cops broke up the fight and no one was hurt, but as usual the noise the cabbies make continued all night.

It’s getting to the point where something must be done, the cabbies have no regard for the noise they are making.”

Oh — but be sure to have the cab number!

If you have issues with a cabbie — they won’t take you a route you want to be taken, they take passengers you don’t want sharing with you, etc. etc. etc. — they’re in violation of their license.

Give Annette at City Hall a call. She’s one of the few offices who is pleasant, helpful & willing to look into any complaint.

Finally some one else hears what we had to deal with when the cabbies where on Observer Highway. When you call the HPD about the noise and the honking they would ask for the cab number of who was beeping the horn but who could tell which one when there are 25 cabs there at one time. And the fighting and yelling, those cab drivers don’t care, they just want to get to the front of the line. Ian Sacs did the right thing by moving them back to Hudson Place and it should be up to the fare if they want to share their cab and not up to the driver to try and collect more money. So keep them right where they are at the transportation hub.

I wish someone could believably claim they were sexually assaulted or robbed by another passenger they were forced to ride with, and then threaten to sue the City and cab company. That would put the kibosh on the imbecility of this situation pretty fast.
