A decent Hoboken salad anyone?

4/16/2010:

Does any Hoboken restaurant make a killer salad?

Ever since seeing that episode of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution – when he piled the food that one family ate in a month (pizzas, deep fried nonsense, artery clogging crap, etc.) – I’ve been trying my best to start eating more raw foods.

And one way to segue into a more body-friendly diet is via delicious salads (with some naughty ingredients snuck in to help ease the transition). The problem is – that I find great salads AWAY from Hoboken, and something called a “short list of great salad places in Hoboken” does NOT exists in my inventory.

Take a glimpse above at this amazing Cobb Salad I had recently. My goodness – look at the careful presentation, finely chopped ingredients, etc. All I can remember from most restaurants in Hoboken is some limp, brown lettuce, a weak, thinly pounded grilled chicken breast, and some dressing on the side. Who makes salads like this? Even the Chili’s Buffalo Chicken salad is amazing (you should try it – even just for giggles).

So the two questions are:

  1. Who makes the best salads “to go?” (I know Park & Sixth does it – but haven’t tried yet)
  2. Who has the best “dining in” restaurant salads?

I used to enjoy Saladworks downtown – but they went bye-bye years ago!

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Wow, 34 posts and not one “tossed salad” joke.

Recent break-throughs in eating have proven that mixed garden salad with approx. 2 tbs. of virgin olive oil is a healthy choice for lunch and dinner. Of course, we should have been taught to eat our vegetables as well. Yogurt, fruits and whole grain cereal is the breakfast choice. This fare should be supplemented with a reasonable portion of protein. Drink lots of water…….enjoy!

I agree we need one of those places like NYC that have the salad choices in bowls and you pick the topping. But in the meantime I like the Cobb salad (i tell them to leave out the blue cheese) at black bear. Its greek to me has a great grilled chicken salad (a little pricey). Ali Babba also has a good grilled chicken veg salad. The salad at margaritas is pretty decent.
