A bad Friday for this Hoboken tree!

4/2/2010:

Hoboken411 reader Brian is wondering how something like this can be allowed to happen!

Worse than a bowl haircut

“I snapped this on Washington between 14th and 15th. A contractor was trimming trees under a power line around the corner on 15th in front of Hudson tea. They already hit the trees on this block and cut them down to stubs. The problem is that there are NO power lines around. It is hard enough to get healthy trees to grow in this concrete wasteland and the city is butchering trees for no reason!!!”

I know pruning. What is difficult to see in the photo is that 3-4 inch thick branches were cut. This is similar to the butchering that the city did along 1st street last year. Complete overkill. Not as bad when they accidentally cut down a couple of hundred year oak trees in church square park a couple years ago.

There was the same reaction to 1st street either last year or two years ago when the trees were destroyed like this.

If you walk down 1st street now you see that the people who pruned the trees actually did more good than harm. The trees look beautiful right now with even more branches blooming.

Perry you should go to 1st and get an “after” picture for that thread you had.

It’s called pruning trees and it needs to happen in order for more bountiful growth to occur this spring/summer…
