3/27/2008 Update:
I missed the reader comments more than a month ago, but here’s my POV.
It appears my predictions amongst friends has come true. Re-Juice-a-Nation is bailing on their 14th Street Location…
I’ll sum this up briefly (feel free to contact me for more spot-on business advice if you’d like):
- When you have a street-level retail location, you need strong awareness and brand visibility. Re-Juice-a-Nation had neither. Other than that cheesy “open” sign, this place caught no one’s eye. Not sure if it was city zoning or historic preservation that prevented them from being able to “advertise” that there was someone alive in there, but the place had very little traction. An awning would have made a WORLD of difference.
- Not sure what inspired them to continue to name it a complicated to spell name (Re-Juice-a-Nation)… but try spelling that fast. Word of mouth via email was severely hampered by their excessive use of non-alphabetic symobls in their name. I’ll buy the place and name it “Juice Hut” or “Juice for Joo” or “Juice got to be kidding me” and immediately double their sales volume.
- I’ll re-iterate that brand awareness is imperative for street-level businesses. Whether it’s eye-catching window displays, high-contrast logos, or inviting entrances. Re-Juice-a-Nation had none of the above. You couldn’t quickly determine where the front friggin door was! It was doomed from the get-go. NYSC or not. Each time I walked by, the employee of the moment was sitting there contemplating suicide.
Regardless, I have nothing against them, they just needed to think through their business model and image better. Hopefully they’ll get a buyer. But 139 grand is way too much. Seriously! Cut your losses and offer the biz up for 75k and you’ll wash your hands of this debacle quickly and move on to the next step in your life!!!!

7/24/2007 Update:
Saw the big “O P E N” letters in the window. They’re not open yet. The owner was nearby with one of the employees, and it seems as if they’re having some issues with “permits”. They seemed a little skittish and unwilling to discuss. I asked when? A day? A week? The girl said “Maybe Wednesday or Thursday”.
7/13/2007 Update:
Soon in Hoboken frequently means “Don’t set your watch by it”.
It appears that the re.Juice.a.Nation is getting a little closer to opening. Things are happening inside, and they even put a help wanted Craigslist ad out.
Not sure who else they’re going to be hiring, but my suspicion is that one of the jobs is to replace the person that wrote this ad. Gosh, I got a headache reading it.

Hey, we lost Juice Garden and Juice Zone, so it’s 2-1 Doomed Juice vs. New Juice.

I love this place. I stop into the downtown one everynight for a myoplex light and vitamin shot. I know I can make these at home but they just don’t taste the same. YUM!

I have tried rejuiceanation many times. They aren’t bad shakes, but I love the shakes at Club H better.
Try a “Mango Tango” with vanilla Isopure at Club H…yum!

club H does have great shakes. mango tango sounds good, I will give that a shot. is isopure the drink mix with low carbs? rejuiceanation has a reduced carb drink and I always forget to order it.

Re Juice smoothies are much better than the ones at Club H, and the salads and soups are awesome too@!

btw, I tried the mango tango last night from club h. it was sooo good! I sucked it down so fast I had a bellyache by the time I got home.

From what I heard, Cold Stone Creamery had a similar “permit” problem (wink, wink) with the city.

I love this place too! I hope it makes it up-town. Hopefully they will stop jacking up prices though!

The uptown location is officially open. I stopped in and bought a rasberry smoothie earlier today. The staff person was friendly and quick. They also have sandwiches, soup and energy snacks. The sandwiches were delivered when I was there so I assume they were made at the downtown location. They looked good and reasonably priced. It was a very tasty smoothie, a bit overpriced for me, although for a treat once in a while it’s worth it.
I suggest people in the neighborhood check this place out if they have a couple extra bucks to splurge for something different.

HEY SILLY GOOSIE I HAVE BEEN GETTING THE PEANUT BUTTER CREAM EVERYDAY FOR ALMOST FOUR YEARS AND THE PRICE HAS BEEN THE SAME. THE ONLY PRICE CHANGE I RECALL WAS WHEN THE TAXES WENT UP. SO WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
13. MorrisCK | February 22nd, 2008 at 11:46 am

Is the sale price $199,000 or $139,000?

i cant agree with you enough on the “Entrance must be inviting” factor. People don’t realize the subconscious reasons that people walk into a bar or restaurant.
I forget the name of the place on 2nd and washington or so that has had a few failed restaurants / bars - it was a lounge / bar most recently. They have a monster wooden facade with tiny little windows, and a hard to find door on the right hand side. It is impossible to see what is going on inside - and people LOVE to look inside a place before they walk in.
that place would double their business if they had awith a big glass window and an inviting door.

I think what also hurt them was that they didn’t have any salads. People love the store downtown because they have salads, soups, shakes, and sandwiches. I went in when they opened, and they said that they are only going to have soup, shakes, and a few sandwiches. I know for a fact that I along with a bunch of others I spoke to wish they had salads. Also, every time I went there for a sandwich, they were either sold out or there was 1 or 2 that appeared to be there for a while. I think having salads and a better assortment of items like their downtown location would have been key.
