Are you pissed about Hoboken taxes?

3/16/2010:

Wishing you’d forget campaign promises

With city officials loving the distractions such as the collapsing piers, or the ongoing police union contracts – they pray to God you’ve forgotten about the “detailed 25% tax cut plan” Zimmer and Company promised to implement once you voted them into office.

Now that the tax cut has vanished – and possibly more external economic doom on the horizon, how do you feel about the big time FAIL on their #1 election campaign platform?

Does the lack of a Hoboken tax cut PISS YOU OFF?

So the NJ Turnpike has an audit and uncovers all the dirty little secrets and offensive spending.

nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/10/audit_of_nj_turnpike_authority.html

Why has Dawn not ordered a similar forensic audit of the entire Hoboken Budget including the board of Ed???

Make the gross payments, bonuses and benefits public record. You would have the people behind you to make the cuts no matter how much the unions complained when they saw everything in black and white like this audit showed.

WE WERE LIED TO. WHERE IS OUR 25% TAX DECREASE?

I’m pissed about everything that Ms. Zimmer is doing. She’s lied and she’s not showing any governing capabilities.

Mayor Zimmer has hit rock bottom when it comes to leadership.

It’s going to be a long and painful three years for us before we can vote for a new mayor.

So things in perspective. At the time of the elections, did we have a better candidate? I personally was never crazy about Zimmer but my #1 reason was to vote for ‘change’. Guess change brings similar results with our local politicians as well as our current president – who will go into history as one of the worse presidents ever.

Half of you sound like you only get your news from People Magazine and the Hoboken Reporter.

Economists were talking about a major recession coming for years before it happened. So now we’re in it. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. It’s going to hurt for YEARS to come. So strap yourselves in because there’s no getting off this ride.

Half? I think that’s being incredibly generous.

I appealed my tax increase last May, so mine never up. Others could have done the same if they wanted to.

I’m not mad at Dawn, I’m mad at the previous administrations who got us into all the debt in the first place which caused the taxes to go up. They spent a fortune hooking up their friends and relatives and campaign contributors and we ended up with the bill. Dawn can only do so much, but so far she seems a lot better than any mayor we’ve had in a long, long time. Whoever said the bit about property owners being concerned apparently isn’t aware that renters pay property taxes too. Just so you know, if a landlord isn’t passing along the taxes (assuming he doesn’t have a PILOT) it’s because (s)he is charging an illegally high rent and doesn’t want the tenant going to city hall and asking about it. The tenant might end up getting a rent calculation and find they are overpaying by far more than the taxes. All that bending over backwards by Hoboken politicians for the developers have cost the city’s residents big time and all we have to show for it are the tax bills (and lousy PILOTS). The politicians talk about how they fixed up so much for us residents but really they made a lot of areas more valuable for the developers at our expense instead of making them do it in return for the zoning variances they all got. (Few end up paying the community back for the huge variances they get it seems. Either they don’t do it at all,… Read more »
