Throwdown with Bobby Flay in Hoboken

La Isla Restaurant, one of the most popular restaurants in this eclectic city will be feature on Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay on Wednesday, March 17th at 9pm.

The episode will feature Iron chef Bobby Flay against La Isla’s Chef Omar Giner as he tries to outdo Omar’s popular Stuffed French Toast with his own interpretation of this unique version of the classic breakfast dish.

La Isla has been a Hoboken institution for over 40 years and under the ownership of the Giner and Luis families since 1996. During Omar’s tenure, the inconspicuous 39 seat restaurant has attained local cult status for its unique combination of authentic Cuban cuisine and Omar’s creative Nuevo Latino interpretations. It has consistently been named as one of the top restaurants in the state by NJ Monthly and has garnered some of the highest Zagats food ratings in the state.

The Food Network episode was filmed in Hoboken in mid December in front of a live audience.

Bobbo’s pale-ass eyelashes freak me out.

I don’t think that Bobby Flay is actually trying to win all of these throwdowns. It seems to be a showcase for the signature dishes of restaurants across the nation. Show how the dish is made, who the restaurant owners are, and have a little fun with it.

This show is sort of pointless, Bobby’s 2 female cohorts are the ones doing all the cooking in the show and showing Bobby what to do. You would think that BF needs no help. In all of the shows he has won 4x. Show has been on for 3 years. Maybe if Bobby picked up a pan himself instead of listening to the gals and doing it himself might add some value to the program. The only time BF cooks is when he is on Iron Chef and he is pretty good there.

Oh, great! Now we won’t be able to walk down THAT side of Washington St. either! At least Hoboken will be able to balance the budget with the extra parking fines.

This is at least the 2nd time Bobby Flay has done a show in Hoboken. He did a BBQ show on Castle Point a few years ago.
